I am going to be purchasing a XPS 15 or 17 but I am wondering if I should spend the extra money for the extended 3yr warranty....
I have purchased a few dell laptops and desktops in the past and I have always purchased the extended 3yr warranty. I had a problem with the Desktop's Monitor at the 2nd year mark and Dell immediately mailed out a new one to replace. I also have had to use the warranty on the Inspiron Laptop when the LCD display failed in the 3rd year. Dell mailed the replacement part immediately and sent an installer to my house to install it. I was really impressed with the service.
With that being said, is it worth it and really needed to purchase the extended 3yr dell warranty with any of the XPS laptop models?

Tsunade_Hime such bacon. wow
Given the XPS track record for reliability/build quality, it wouldn't be a bad idea, even non XPS laptops. Under manufacturer warranty, they HAVE to fix anything and everything wrong, minus CID (customer induced damage) unless you get Complete Care.

One of the real advantages of buying a Dell is its warranty service. I find that the 3 year extended warranties are nearly always worth the price on Dell products but I use my notebooks very hard. I took out the extended warranty on my current Acer and, luckily, have not had to use it but took out the extended care pack on my HP Slate 500, which included accidential damage, and it saved my a** when the display cracked (would have cost more than the slate is worth and more than paid for the warranty).

I wouldn't buy any laptop without at least a 2 but preferably a 3 year warranty as unlike tower PCs where parts are easily replaceable, laptops are pretty much proprietary and things are a bit harder for the average consumer to get repaired.

Great feedback everyone, I appreciate all the input.... thank you..... I will definitely add the 3 yr warranty to my purchase..
thanks again.... -
Though I'm late to the party, I agree with everyone that you should at least get the 2 year extended warranty (the ones that kick in after the standard 1-year warranty expires). Mobile products are so compact that there are so many parts that could fail for no fault of your own. Always better to have an insurance policy and go through Customer Support hell, than to have a $1000+ paper weight 2 days after the standard warranty expires.
