Nothing in bios is preventing his computer from working. It's the laptop itself. Dell needs to get him a replacement or a refund.

    I run the fkin 960 evo 1tb

    By elaborating on the boards.

Ask the twats you are speaking with to get you the part number for the motherboards fitted to both specs, the one with sata m.2 and the one that comes with a single NVMe m.2 and larger battery.

They were the same last time I looked.

Phone Dell and ask to buy an NVMe upgrade for your system, let them send it then unleash hell down the phone when it doesn't work.

Before that tell them you need a returns address as you have started the chargeback procedure after trying the NVMe drive in a friend/colleagues identical laptop to confirm the laptops ****ed. You have been instructed to send it back tracked and once they have it your bank will complete the chargeback. that normally gets them going.

Listen to @GoNz0, he's returned more laptops than anyone I know. I listed the part number to the i7 motherboard in a previous reply as well. I've owned a few 9560's that came standard with the 32gb cache drive they've never had any issues with my NVMe drives.

I am waiting on e-mail reply to begin mobo warranty. GoNz0, are you in the UK or US? My card issuer is very reputable, but I want to be careful as to how I define the fraudulent nature of this purchase. I only ask as the consumer protections are probably different. I will call my bank.

You don't need to start a chargeback yet, Dell have no idea if you have or not m8, they don't even know how you paid until the refund is approved and it is passed to the refund department.
Tell them you started it and want to speak to resolutions as the board doesn't work properly.

nothing back from Dell this afternoon so filed the dispute with my financial institution.

Ha GoNz0, just read your reply. I kind of figured UK but didn't want to assume. Anyway, ball rolling, tired of dealing with their crap and apparent lack of competence.

Not quite the same setup as the OP, but I just received my new 9560 and can add a positive data point here. It came with a single 512GB Hynix Nvme (no room for a 2.5" SATA), but I always swap out the drives on any new machine and store the original. After reading about possible incompatibilities I was expecting some trouble.

After booting into the stock OS and activating with my MS account I downloaded the clean ISO and all of the latest drivers from Dell, and burned a USB stick with Rufus. I then flashed the BIOS to 1.6.2 (it came with 1.5 - seriously, Dell? Straight off the line with a 4 month-old BIOS?)

I then immediately swapped out the Hynix for a new Samsung 960 Pro 512GB Nvme. BIOS recognized it immediately with no changes required. I switched over to AHCI before the install anyway.

Windows install recognized the Samsung without needing to browse for a driver. I loaded the Killer Wireless driver just in case it might need it.

Wifi was recognized and I was able to complete setup with my MS account and get the clean install activated.

I think this was actually one of the smoothest clean setups I've ever had with a Dell. It's actually going to take me longer to migrate all my stuff over from my 9550...

The only sticking point was Cortana setup - I stepped away from the machine for a few minutes during that phase and when I came back the setup seemed to have completed by itself. Except I had Czech keyboard mappings and no Wifi - stupid cow had been listening to the TV...

Thanks for all the help and info here - much appreciated.

I've had my 9560 since 04/2017 (different config than the op). I put in a 960 EVO 1TB and it has worked fine since. I think the bios is up to 1.4.
