Hello all,
I have a Dell XPS 15 - 9550 i7, 4K UHD, 16GB Ram and the 512GB HDD. I purchased it from the Microsoft store (Signature Edition) but still wanted to format and "clean install" Windows 10 and the latest drivers from the actual manufacturers sites.
The steps I took was:
1) Updated to the latest BIOS version 1.2
2) Downloaded Windows 10 ISO and created a GPT USB thumb drive installation media.
3) Completely wiped the drive of any / all partitions and installed Windows 10 UEFI.
4) Installed OEM drivers (not from Dell's site) for most of the hardware, with the exception of the wireless card, Dell audio, and Dell PrimerColor.
I am noticing that my boot time is in excess of 23 and greater seconds! I find that quite a long boot up time, and am curious of any tips / information that can increase boot up speeds, and any tips / hints on general performance tweaks / fixes. The drive is in "Raid" mode via the BIOS, switching it to AHCI blue screens when attempting to start Windows.
I will add that stability has been amazing, no crashes, no issues with rebooting / suspend / power off / on.

Will setting it to AHCI mode allow for quicker boot up times and better overall performance? Also, on a restart, task manager is reporting "213" + seconds (I see the Dell logo flicker a second time prior to booting to Windows, it seems buggy posting). On a clean start up (power completely down, and then power up the notebook) I am getting a time of 14.9 seconds.Last edited: May 29, 2016

11-14 seconds is normal on this board.
Been answered plenty of times already, maybe your search buttons broke or you are not aware that you can look for other people's posts about the same thing before posting? ( I will give you a clue, it is at the top right of the page
)

I am aware of how forums work, and also aware that there is a search function, thanks. I was merely posting because I was under the impression that I misconfigured something.

The thing is, by posting in the most recent relevant thread you automatically inform all who posted in it that the topic has a new reply. It can get you an answer faster. This also helps others who do use search as it will take them to a single thread on the issue rather than reading different threads.Meetloaf13 likes this.

Listen to the Gonzzzz!
To answer your question, I've read that some users have seen 5-10% performance increases on R/W tests.

Well since switching to AHCI from RAID, I experienced a BSOD today, which stated "Critical_Process_Died". I have the NVMe driver installed from Samsungs website, the latest NVIDIA Graphics and Intel display driver installed. Does anyone know why / a fix to this?

it does happen, try the intel HD530 beta's
Also the Samsung driver is for the 950 pro only.Last edited: May 29, 2016 -
I am running the latest Beta drivers for the Intel graphics card. Also, thank you for your reply, I wasn't aware the drivers provided by Samsung were not compatible with the NVMe drive that came with the machine. -
it does warn you on the Samsung page that they are for the 950 pro (last time I checked anyway), people have been trying them to fix the BSOD with mixed results though. Do you get the no hard drive installed error when it reboots?

I had no issues running the samsung NVMe driver on either my PM951s or my SM951. I never experienced any BSODs -
For me, the Samsung driver is the only option to avoid BSODs. With the standard MS driver, I am getting these from time to time...
