    Hi all,

After much moaning and groaning about the lack of options for the new L502X in the UK, I gave in and ordered a new one from Dell UK. I purchased with the intention of swapping the integrated DVD/CD writer drive with a Blu-Ray Writer drive. Can anyone who has one/ordered one please advise what make and model I could swap the existing drive out for? I presume you can simply take the front bezel off and attach to a new drive...

    Many thanks.

Here is what my system config says here in the USA:

318-0237 Tray Load Blu-ray® Triple Writer (reads and writes CDs, DVDs, BDs) with Roxio Creater 2011

Don't know how much that will help, though.

Many thanks for that - I'll see what information I can dig up in regards to it. If yourself or anyone else who gets their machine can check within windows - that'd confirm exactly which one it is. Thank you.

I'll be opening her up to swap the hdd not long after I get her (whenever the Vertex 3 comes out). When I do that, I'll give you the actual part numbers off of the optical drive itself.

    @NoSlow5oh,

Did you order with the SSD, then plan to swap it for the Vertex 3, or are you planning on putting the V3 in the ODD?

    You'd want a Panasonic UJ-230 aka Matsh*ta UJ-230

The UJ-230A or UJ-230AS are identical to the UJ-230

My mistake wrong model number. (It's been a long day)
    Panasonic UJ-230 It's a 4x BD Write (Around £ 80)

    Example
NEW Panasoni UJ-230A Blu-Ray SATA DVD Multi Burner on eBay (end time 15-Mar-11 19:16:34 GMT)

I purchased mine comfortably over a year ago (It's seen a few enclosures) and still has great performance. Now the price has dropped though it seems worth looking at the UJ-240 as it's 6x (Around £120)

    Example
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/offer-li...w?ie=UTF8&qid=1299712837&sr=8-1&condition=new
Would have to remove it from the enclosure though!

Just to add I'm now selling mine, need to get my laptop back to factory specs...
For those interested it comes with an enclosure and goodies!

The HDD I'll be getting from dell with the system is the 640GB one. The samsung ssd dell offers is not worth the money, hence why I'm waiting for the Vertex 3 to come out. I will not be swapping the ODD since I paid extra for the BD writer. I have a WD Essentials USB 3.0 2.5" 500GB to put big storage stuff on, like movies.

I think the Sony BD-5730S-01 is a good drive and has good write speed (6x) and bit cheaper.

Sony BD-5730S 6x Internal Slimline Blu-Ray BD Writer SATA: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories
