Hey guys, I've got a nearing 2 year old dell XPS L502X 15inch laptop that Im still using.
Everything about it is relatively good, its just that the battery life has been reduced to less than 2 hours...

Is there anywhere I can go to buy a replacement battery (for cheapest possible)? I need this thing to last me over 5hours if possible..

    Thanks for the help!

You can ask Dell to provide you with prices for a 6-cell replacement battery, or if possible, go for a 9-cell battery. Another option would be to renew your warranty and claim to have your battery replaced under your warranty - it didn't cost me much to renew my warranty by 2 years after my 1-year warranty had expired (that was before I sold off my XPS 15). A third option would be to search online for a parts seller such as Parts-People.com or eBay even. Out of those 3 options, I'd recommend the 2nd one - it's always good to be covered if you intend to keep your machine for much longer - and anyway, it increases its value if you intend to sell it.

P.S. - after you get your new battery, think about buying a SSD drive as well. SSDs increase your battery life by over an hour or so

One other thing to remember is to set your Windows Power Plan to "Battery saver", and make sure that the maximum processor usage is set to something like 0% or 1%. This will make sure that you are using a litttle processing power as possible while on battery.

With my 9-cell battery, which now has battery wear at 16% according to HWMonitor, I still get about 2-5 hours of battery (brightness at 35%, wifi on) depending on what I'm doing. if i'm just doing some coding or email work, I can easily get 5 hours, if I'm doing something more intensive like testing something locally or in a virtual machine, I'll see about 2-3 hours of battery life.

    thanks guys.
How much does the warranty & battery cost? I dont want to have to pay more than 200 because in that case i mind as well save for a new laptop

I always use battery saver when im in class, i really regret choosing the i7 though..

I have another Dell with the i5 - it doesn't get any better battery life than the i7. Sure, I get about an extra 20-30 minutes if I really conserve it, but in normal usage it's no different.

You can get a replacement battery on eBay for about $50-60.

Are those reliable though? I read somewhere else that batteries other than OEM wont work or have lots of issues..

I have had both OEM and Generic batteries with no problems with any of them.
