Hey guys, my Dell XPS wont boot up after I attempted to reapply the thermal paste. Everything went smoothly, well I thought. Now it wont bootup and I get this nasty screen and a beeping sound. Heres a pick of the screen, if anyone knows what might be the problem I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks guys. :( :( :(

Is the beeping sound constant? - or is it a particular number of beeps?

What thermal paste did you use?

The only thing I can suggest really is that you perform the entire process again, checking for any damage which may have occurred, because that screen your getting doesn't look very nice. :(

    Hi,

As Matrix5 mentioned, you may check and confirm the connections once again. Please find the below link for the service manual of L502X. You may refer to the same if required.

    Documentation

Also please check if you are able to login to the BIOS and the devices are detected and listed as per the configuration. If you are able to login to the BIOS and all the devices are listed accordingly then please try to run a PSA diagnostics to identify and isolate the issue. You may use the below link to read more about the PSA diagnostics.

I hope this helps. Please do write back in case you need any further assistance.

    Thanks & Regards

It beeps 8 times, pauses, then beeps again. I used arctic silver5 thermal paste, and I have tried redoing the whole process with no luck.

And I cannot access the bios I dont think, I get this screen as soon as I power of on

8 beeps means that screen is not connected or Display failure .. You should check the screen cable under the keyboard.. Good luck with that.. You can also try to reset cmos by pulling the battery of..

Thanks for the help. After assembling and re-assembling I can find only one cord coming from the display, (minus the ground cable and antenne cables) which is flat and maybe an inch wide. I can press it firmly into place and it seems connected properly, even though theres no distinct *click* when putting into place. Could I have possibly damaged the cord even though its wrapped in a pretty heavy sheath. idk

The cord should not be able to move when it is connected. This is cable's position disassemble-xps-15-laptop-23.jpg and this is the cable itself disassemble-xps-15-laptop-24.jpg . You should check that is attached. When I had forgotten to plug this cable i had the same problem as you. 8 beeps error, so i suppose it is the same now.. Hope it helps..

Yes that is the cable I was talking about, and it seems to be connected firmly. I pressed it onto the mobo as much as I could. Does this mean the cable is bad or the LCD?

Maybe you should try resetting the bios by removing the cmos battery for 30 seconds.. I do not know if it is the screen, the cable, or something else..

While you are doing it maybe replace the CMOS battery with a new one.
