Hi,
I want to buy a laptop and I stopped at a Dell XPS L502x i7 2670QM, 500GB 7200rpm, 4GB DDR3, nVidia GT540M 2GB HD, Full HD
My question is, for those who have had the opportunity to use it, if it heats up very much (considering that i7 has 4 cores and the Max TDP is 45W) and how reliable you think this laptop is.
Thanks.

It is really a good laptop...Doesn't heat up that much... However I am still using a cooling pad.... The fan makes some noise...

Don't worry about heating. XPS is nicely designed to dissipate the heat effectively.

I saw on Youtube that it has some problems with the fan.

Has anyone this type of laptop, witch faced same problem with the fan ? -
I don't have any fan problems right now, but I did adjust some settings before so the computer isn't "stock". Sorry, I can't remember what I changed.
However, right now I run it on high power settings almost 24/7 with no noticeable fan noise/excessive activity. Of course, recently I've only been using it for web browsing/video watching/writing code so it is a pretty light workload but, from recent memory, the only time the fan has come on at high speeds (it is noisy at max power, as expected) is when it was doing some windows update download/install thing.
edit: Oh and also when I was reassessing the windows experience index after updating to the latest nvidia drivers. -
I love this laptop! I had this laptop for over 3 months now and I have no complaints or issues...except for one (but it was my fault)
The laptop does not heat up much due to proper ventilation (side vent on the left) and if you get a 9 cell battery, it props up the laptop so there is more ventilation on the bottom of the laptop. The only concern is if you're a lefty, then the left side vent can get very hot because it's blowing out hot air from the system.
I have not had any problems with the fan noise ramping up and down like that (bought this system in October). In November, I broke one of the usb ports (my fault) and got it replaced. The Dell Technician told me that the fan issue has been resolved in newer systems (not sure if there's enough credibility) and I also talked to a representative as I asked for technician whether the fan issue has been recognized by Dell and they told they have recognized the problem and addressed in the systems shipping out.
The fan does make some noise...but it's not bothersome to me (not excessive like those videos and not too loud) and it gets the job done...the palmrest never gets hot for me and sometimes it's even cold to the touch!
That being said, I would careful of the USB ports because in all the time I had a laptop, I have never had USB port break on me (I know it was my fault, but I was sometimes reckless with my USB ports but they never broke on me)
Hope that helps!
