Hello,
I'm contemplating whether to buy an external monitor or upgrade the screen in my dell XPS.
I bought the laptop last year but I could not justify the extra £140 ($220) that dell wanted for the upgraded 1080p screen.
Looking around on here, it seems that the screen can be upgraded. I was wondering how hard this actually is to do? The most complex thing I've ever done with a laptop is upgrade the RAM, so is this any more difficult?
What screen would I need and how much would it cost?
Thanks in advance

To give you an idea of how much work is necessary to disassemble your L502x, check out this thread http://forum.notebookreview.com/del...stallation-cpu-gpu-repasting-56k-warning.html

Seems to be a lot of work, but not difficult (in my opinion). You just have to be careful with in following the correct procedure, and knowing exactly how much force to apply with each step.
That said, don't do the LCD upgrade unless you are absolutely confident that you can do it well. Lots of people try to perform component upgrades themselves, only to break all kinds of other components in the process. While Dell has no problem with you disassembling your laptop, breaking components is a whole other matter. -

Looks too difficult, I'll have to stick to an external monitor then!
