you will need to follow the same compatibility, but good luck finding one for a decent price, you will be paying out the to get one.

    Awesome review!

Just, can you run 3D Mark 06 in default settings and do a screenshot of your score? I'll appreciate :)

Hey downlinx, can you tell me if the cooling fan draws air in from the front of the laptop around the speakers or if it is drawn in at the vent on the rear? Cheers!

from what i can tell it pulls from one side of the back and pushes it out the other side of the back.
if you look at the fan, the shrould on the left side looks as if it pulls the air from their and pushes to the right.

Yes i know, but it's just to have an idea about the performance of the 630M GT. There're many benchmark about the 630M GT but the score are very heterogeneous (start at 8000 pts to 9500 pts). I wanna buy this laptop and may be play some time. I don't think that buy the i7 version with 640M GT is really necessary (according to the price). It is at 1500€ and the i5 version at 1200€. I'm not really a gamer but sometime i like playing Eve Online, SWTOR and other game.

You will be fine playing those games, if I can play diablo on high, those games will be a breeze.

I would imagine it would be at some point, but don't expect our price to be any better than the one linked to a few posts back. We've provided feedback based on the first 50 pages of the speculation thread after launch about US configs (the US regional manager wanted to know about missing the SSD-only option in the US), and the UK config feedback was in the data we sent over. This was sent over Friday evening, UK time, and we are still currently waiting for an answer.

    Hi guys,

i'm architect and I need a new laptop for CAD, 3D renderings, photoshop, illustrator etc. I mean a lot of graphic jobs.
Do you think this laptop is good for my use?

    I'd like to buy the platinium one (in France) : Intel i7, 16Go, 1To + 128 SSD mSATA, GT 640M 2Go.

PS: Dell France don't sell it with the backlit keyboard too :(

Bill, a dell representative, has stated there is ONLY a backlit keyboard for this machine. He said there was no spare parts for this machine that doesn't have a back lit keyboard.

The machine should be very fast, however, the GT 640M is not a burner if you use the GPU for accelerating your CAD software is of the utmost priority an AMD GPU may be better to your liking. Check out this article Review GeForce GTX 680M vs. Radeon HD 7970M - Notebookcheck.net Reviews

Downlinx, can you tell me if there are mac-style gestures usable on the touchpad? 2 finger right click, scrolling etc.?

    Cheers

There are gestures but there is no 2 finger right click. But there is zoom, rotate, and two finger scroll.

    Thanks for the review.

Do you know what size screwdrivers are needed to open the bottom to replace the hd?

I think you mentioned it uses torx, but I'd like to make sure I have the right size to install my ssd. Also, I've read that the xps15z was a pain to upgrade, but it seems like the new xps 15 is much easier and is a matter of removing a few screws and removing the bottom panel...

I have the previous version of XPS-15 (L502X) which uses a Dell (DLL050E) touchpad rather than a Synaptics. The problem I have with this touchpad is that I can not adjust the sensitivity of the Tapping Feature so that I can use it reliably without inadvertent tapping and selecting while moving the cursor across the display. I prefer using Touchpad Tapping rather than the left button. I have been working with Dell over a two month period to resolve this issue involving the replacement of the touchpad on the first unit received the end of April followed by a new replacement unit none of which resulted in any change in touchpad behavior. I have contacted Synaptics and they believe there may be a compatibility issue between their Driver and the Dell touchpad. I am about to return the second unit for full refund and purchase the latest XPS 15 which uses the Synaptics Glass Touchpad along with the Synaptics Driver. Have you played with adjusting the sensitivity of the Synaptics Glass Touchpad as it relates to finger pressure required to move the cursor as well as finger pressure required to execute a tap? If so I would love to know the results before deciding to purchase the newer XPS 15. Thanks, Ron Sisson

    Hey! nice review :)

Can you make a test with Furmark and Aida64 to test cpu and gpu at the same time ?

And maybe post some screenshots about temperatures?

Also when you play some demanding game is the palmrest gets real hot?
