I have this problem three weeks after owning the laptop. When I open the lid all the way it makes a creaking noise on the right side of the laptop. I had a tech come and all he did was take out the two screws farthest from the battery. The ones that are lower. Then he put them back in. It was okay for a short period of time and now it is doing it again.

Google  has just been frustrating me. I search and search for this problem all I get is stupid articles from 2004 to 2007 that does not even apply to this laptop. No where anywhere I can find what screws I can remove to adjust the hinge. Nothing. Will someone please tell me what is causing this and with some info on what can be done?

Every time I post a topic I get no responses. No one has a answer.

You can find complete disassembly instructions in the owner's manual at the Dell web site, and I've used those to take mine down to the chassis.

That said, if this was my issue, I would chat Dell again and tell them that the tech's visit failed to fix the problem. They'll eventually dispatch a tech again. It's possible you may go through several iterations of this, then they'll just replace the hinge, or if that's not shipped separately, the assembly that includes the hinge, which may be the entire cover.

It may be the right hinge is too tight, and simply needs loosening but it sounds like the tech didnt get that far. You can try and do it your self but if your not comfortable then just ring dell again. That is what your warranty is for.

I tech came today and replaced the entire cover with a new one. So far it is working fine and closes completely.
