I recently discovered an issue with the power socket of my laptop (or the charger itself). I didn't notice it before, because for a period of time I used my laptop as a desktop (i.e. it never moved; always ran on AC power without battery).

But now that I've started moving it around, I noticed that the charger has a very loose connection to the back of the laptop. Of course, it connects very easily with little resistance, which is good, but it also disconnects very easily as well. It's annoying, and I figured it was just a design flaw, but has anyone experienced this? Is there a good fix for it, or is it more than just a common problem that should receive Dell's attention?

I'd appreciate any info. I'm new on these NR forums, so hello. :D

Well, mine connects and disconnects quite easily, but there is a resistance that should be enough to prevent it from accidentally unplug.

I've had the same experience, it doesn't take much to make the plug come out. I wonder if it's designed that way, if so it seems it could have had a little more 'grip' to it as even re-positioning it on my desk has caused it to come loose.

One of the few complaints I've had so far though, overall a very good machine...

My original seemed to have a decent connection. It plugged in and stayed just fine. The replacement, the one I've had for 3ish months now, is a bit weaker. It plugs in like butter, but it also doesn't take much to unplug it, as such I don't like to take the battery out unless I'm using the thing firmly on a table. I've never unplugged it (well except for once when I reached the end of the length, lol), but I can see where it would be pretty easy to do so.

Seems like a Dell design issue. It could be a firmer fit without being stupid, my Inspiron 1150 had a great fitting plug.

I have the same problem with the loose charger plug-in on my Dell XPS 15, and I've already had my charger replaced once, because the first one began fraying at the connector (after only 4 months), perhaps from me continually replugging it when it came loose. It's highly annoying...I've never had a loose charger on less expensive laptops I've owned before.

I bought the BIX LC90 right angle connector, and it fits my machine better than the default straight plug. Also, for my setup, the right angle connector runs less risk of snapping than the straight plug. Highly recommended for any L702x.

Good to know mcdill. Been considering the right-angle anyway.
