So recently my M1330 has had problems charging, wiggling the power cable would occasionally fix this but now it no longer charges in the slightest bit. My laptop is out of warranty and it's pretty obvious I need to replace my power jack. Replacing the mobo is my last option, I'm posting to ask if anyone knows any model number or anywhere to buy the M1330's power jack. I've found jacks that seem to be easily compatible, although they're not the octagonal kind the M1330 is equipped with.

I may be able to dig up an old 65W adapter (the round type) so buying that type of power jack isn't out of the question, but if anyone conveniently knows where I can find this specific power jack that would make things a bit easier.

    Thanks for any help

Hi and welcome to the forum.
You can use a round jack as long as it lines up with your PCB.
Some of the normal Dell changer with work on the M1330 just check there power rating before use.

As I stated in my original post, I realize all of this. I was curious if anyone knew where to find the octagonal power port.

are you saying you wanna change the "hard" part of the ac connector? the one that sticks into your laptop? well let me tell ya i have tried it, but its just hard to get that particular part... try something for me will you ? remove the battery from the laptop, and turn the computer on, if it has the same problem then it is your ac connector, and you can dig up an old 65W one, but if it works without a problem without the battery then its your battery, im saying this because i fixed an HP notebook with that very same problem, i destroyed the ac adapter ( that worked perfectly fine) and found out it was the battery all along...

What does that even mean? Turns out every component in a computer one would describe as "hard."

I'm far from new to troubleshooting. It's without a doubt not the battery or the adapter itself. It's 1) the power JACK, as I said, or 2) a component on the motherboard.

That's why my first plan is to attempt replacing the JACK (the PORT you plug the adapter into) which is a possible $10 fix. The backup to this plan is simply buying a refurbished motherboard.

No help is required in figuring out what is wrong with the laptop, this seems to be the wrong forums to attempt to ask a question like this.

    Hi Xiocine,

did you manage to fix the problem?

I seem to have exactly the same issue with the XPS m1330.
While browsing, I found the power jack on ebay using the following search text: "Dell XPS DC Jack power socket PJ30". It also goes as "PJ030".

I am about to open the XPS and see if I can solder the current power jack. If not, I will be ordering on ebay and installing the new one in a few days.

I hate to think that the issue is in the motherboard, in which case I will just disassemble the mofo, sell it by part and will never buy the bloody Dell again. Dell gave me already so many issues and it was only the fantastic service level I experienced that maintained my loyalty.
