Here is the deal. My Dell XPS M1330 is currently having the GPU replaced under the one year warranty extension Dell offers on the faulty nVidia chips. I had hoped that sense I do not play games or do anything graphically intense my video would not fail. That was clearly wishful thinking. So now I am faced with a dilemma. Knowing that my notebook will fail again as long it has the nVidia GPU, should I spend my money on a warranty extension or should I spend it on a new laptop?

Here is the break down on my specs:

    Core 2 Duo T5250 (1.50 GHz)
    2 GB of RAM
    120 GB HDD
    nVidia Geforce 8400m
    LED backlit display with webcam

Here are the costs for a warranty extensions

    Return to Depot till 6/17/2010 -- 1 year(s) [add $39] $0.36 per day
    Return to Depot till 6/17/2011 -- 2 year(s) [add $120] .25
    Return to Depot till 6/17/2012 -- 3 year(s) [add $173] .20
    Return to Depot till 6/17/2013 -- 4 year(s) [add $219] .18

    Next Business Day Onsite till 6/17/2010 -- 1 year(s) [add $57] $0.52 per day
    Next Business Day Onsite till 6/17/2011 -- 2 year(s) [add $194] .41
    Next Business Day Onsite till 6/17/2012 -- 3 year(s) [add $290] .34
    Next Business Day Onsite till 6/17/2013 -- 4 year(s) [add $361] .30

Please Note: One year warranty is not a full year!

If I go with a warranty extension:

    1) Should I go with depot or onsite?
    2) Should I get accidental damage coverage (Complete Care)? (An extra $30-80)

    Final Thoughts/Questions:

As long as I am under the nVidia warranty I could wait till the last minute before extending my warranty so it would be cheaper (the price drops as it gets closer to the original ship date).

What is the likelihood of getting Dell to replace my M1330 with something better down the road?

    Thanks for your help!

Get something new, "reliable" better & faster!
Something that you don't have to worry about a "fail" happening to you with overheating, etc..Something you can enjoy.

And, don't have to put more monies Out Of Pocket! :)

If you do go with the warranty extension, personally I would go with the Complete Care..that way you are covered "all around", and the "OnSite". I like having the Tech to my house to repair vs. having to send my lappy' in for Depot. :) I'm having a tech' to my house later this week to fix a "boo boo".....

    Ebay.

    Sell it.

It's only a matter of time before it fails again.

If you can afford it, there are some really nice systems out there...

The thing will fail again. It's just too much of a risk. I would suggest you wait until the Nvidia warranty is about to run out then buy a new laptop. Hopefully by then something new from Dell (13 inch) will be out and then you can make a really good buy. You could still go the replacement route, as Dell seems to be replacing these laptops (m1330 and m1530) more and more often nowadays. It depends on how many dell tech fixes you've had. If 3 or more, sternly and appropriately, request that you don't want this laptop anymore due to hampered productivity, and see what they do. I got mine replaced (specs below), and am very happy.

Cin' What happened to your laptop?????? What is this "boo boo"?

EDIT: Never mind Cin', I found your new thread....lol.
