I purchased my Dell XPS M1330 PC used about 18 months ago and it has generally worked well (specifications in signature below). Today I tried using headphones with the PC for the first time, but cannot obtain sound through the headphones. When I insert the headphones plug in either headphones jack, sound continues through the speakers while the headphones remain silent. Sources include the VLC media player and YouTube videos on the internet. I tried to troubleshoot this situation with the owner's manual, but the manual does not address headphone use.

Thanks for reading and any suggestions.
