Hello Everyone,
I am facing a weird problem from past few months and i need your help. It seems that i am facing lagging issues on almost every game. I have installed Street Fighter 4, Dirt 2, Modern Warfare 2, Dragon Age and Burnout paradise, and all these games have one common problem and that is it lags after 3 minutes and then runs smoothly. I really don't understand what i have to do to fix it. I have tried all the possible solution and i have the latest Nvidia Driver (195.62 driver) from the Nvidia website. If anyone has solved this lagging problems then could you please, please, please help me out on this. Below is my laptop configuration
My below PC configuration
OS - Windows 7 Ultimate
Ram - 3 GB + 4 GB ready boost
Nvidia Driver - 195.62
Graphics Card - 8600M GT

if this is the case, it means that your m1530 is overheating: When the gpu hits more than 90C it downclocks to protect itself, thus leading to the lag, then when the temperatures are lower it goes full clock, until it hits 90C and then downclocks again...
what you need to so is:
1- clean your vents, fan, and heatsink with compressed air.
2- if this doesnt fix it, contact dell, this is a common issue with the m1530, tell them your experiencing slowdowns and lagg while gaming because the computer is overheating. they should send out a new motherboard and heatsink ( considering you still have your warranty.. )
3- this is always good for any gaming notebook; get a laptop cooler like the zalman nc1000 or the nc2000, that way your computer will run cooler, your wrists wont get baked with the heat from the laptop, and you wont experience those slowdowns.
I hope this helps man!! -
Yes koer this is the exact problem which is happening to my laptop. It lags then plays fine and then again lags. I think you are right. I never thought of this that my laptop would be over heating. Thank you for your support. I will call the Dell people because my laptop is under warranty.
By the way have you faced this similar problem with your laptop.

Hi Everyone,
Is there any way to limit the laptop to overheat besides using a laptop cooler.

yeah you can try all of this
open it up and clean the fan assembly.
apply new thermal pads/paste
a fan at the left side of the 1530 also helps.. -
dell system exchange
i hope yours doesnt go as far! -
is that the one with throttling issue?
-
I had a 1530 and it worked pretty good for me as well, but I did notice the lagging every once and a while!!

Hi Koer,
Did dell repaced your XPS laptop with sxps 16 for free or under warranty. If they did then could you please reveal your secret or if you want to maintain privacy then please email me on [email protected]

are those idle or under load temps? if idle, they are still a bit high, if under load, its ok.. we have almost the same temps. Just had my thermal compund replenished by dell -
I don't believe this. I have undervolt my laptop with RMclock and my laptop is running so coooooooool. I am even able to play all my games without sacrificing performance. It seems that undervolt is an important for every M1530 users.
I recently had a 10 degree drop in temperature. I was able to play Dragon Age on full resolution with high settings. -
i have same problem..and i did undervolt ..when i want test with ORTHOS (iii Set the test type to "Small FFTs - stress cpu" to concentrate the test to the cpu.
iv) Run ORTHOS stress test for 45mins or more)..after 3 minute my laptop automaticly be shutdown..please reply your Settings in RMclock ..if you can please uploade image from your setting in RMclock..i really need it
i attach a image from my setting
thanks in advancedAttached Files:

Hi iman86z,
Firstly ticking on all the checkbox will not help you at all. What we are trying to achieve here is to keep the CPU cool (undervolting) so that it does not produce a lot of heat. You have to do some test on your own. Let me explain you with an example.
I have a game called dragon age which does not require much of CPU power, so i undervolted my CPU to the lowest VID (please see the screenshot) and i am able to play this game smoothly in high resolution. On the other hand when i play Crysis i see a decrease in performance because crysis requires a lot of CPU power and as you know i have already undervolted it to the lowest VID. So what i have done is i have increased the VID in rmclock to index 2 which is VID 1.2500 v only. After that crysis was also running smoothly in mid settings and again when i play a different game like Batman Arkham Asylum i switched back to the lowest VID (which i have ticked in the screenshot) because this game did not required a lot of CPU power.
What i am trying to explain is that different different games requires different setting in rmclock. Its just a matter of ticking the right checkbox.
Also a piece of advice switch to windows 7 for increased performance in games it will really help.

Hi iman86z,
It seems your laptop's CPU is over heating and that is the reason your laptop is shutting down. Do one thing download HWMonitor and monitor your CPU and GPU temp while playing games. If you find that your CPU and GPU temp is way high then you have 2 options.
1) Call Dell support guys to replace your motherboard if your laptop is under warranty.
2) Change the thermal paste of the CPU with Arctic Silver 5.
Post your screenshot HWMonitor

If you set the VID too low then your laptop can crash. This might be your problem and not overheating. All CPUs are not exactly the same and not all of them can run at full speed reliably with low voltage. You need to do some Prime95 stability testing when you lower the voltage to make sure your CPU is capable.
No one has mentioned about the clock modulation throttling that a lot of Dell laptops do when using the CPU and the GPU at the same time.
ThrottleStop is designed for the Core i7 problems but it can also be used to control and monitor Core 2 CPUs. Run a log file while gaming and make sure the modulation is not dropping below 100%. Any time your CPU uses clock modulation, the performance can drop like a rock. This might be the reason games slow down to a crawl and then speed back up again as clock modulation cycles on and off. ThrottleStop makes it easy to over ride this if that's the problem with these laptops.
