Is there a way to adjust the fan speed? Do I need a program to do so? If so, which ones? Thanks!

You may be able to alter with i8kfangui - but be warned, it has not been updated since just prior to the XPS M1710 launch. With that in mind, it may not handle thermal control properly. I have also read posts about the BIOS and i8kfangui fighting for control of the fans.

    Good luck.

No program (except maybe i8kfangui) will work. The problem (to my understanding) is that in Dell notebooks, only BIOS is allowed to adjust fan speeds. The program i8kfan was developed by hacking the BIOS and finding a way to override the control. Now the BIOS has changed, and the program doesn't work anymore.
