I got a new m1530 a month ago and it was working fine untill three days ago when upon either sleep, hibernate, or shutdown, the computer would automatically restart. There is no way to turn the computer off. I have called Dell support three times and have done everything including full system image restore. Just got off the phone where the guy had me remove half of my memory (2gb), and now it seems to be working. I'm not convinced though since it the problem has been intermittent the last three days, seeming to go away but reoccurring. Has anyone encountered this? Thanks for ur help.

I know that when the Inspiron 6000 we own was doing stuff similar to that and finally what fixed the problem for good was. Step 1: Installing all new RAM and then Step 2: Reformatting the computer and reinstalling windows from the disk. Those image restore things they always told me to do just never worked, so I took matters into my own hands. Reformat your computer, I think that should solve your problem.

Maybe the stick was just loosely in there. The Dell technician put mine back in and it looked fine but it did not detect the second 2GB stick, so I had to go back in and reseat the memory stick and then all was well.
