    Hello everyone,

Just today after a few years, my Dell XPS M1530 suddenly showed a bunch of dark vertical areas each about an inch apart on the screen. Did a search on this forum and saw an old post (which has now been closed) that errily resembles the screenshot on that post. I reproduce from that post the attached screenshot. I think the display is shot.

    What do you think?

    Thanks,

It looks to me like the backlights are failing, you need to replace the screen or backlights

    Some more information.

Hooked up laptop to external monitor and everything looks fine on external monitor, no lines or nothing. Clear picture.

Did a POST and got error code - 2000-0326: Unable to turn lamp ON

    This is a LED Display.

Is it possible to change lamp or does it mean just replace screen? Should I open up display and recheck inverter cable connections etc?

It does look like your backlight is failing. By the way, wLED backlighting doesn't use an inverter. You could always check the connectors, but I'm betting on failing hardware.

LED does use a converter not an inverter. I guess there is no way to fix the backlight, is there? If not, then will go ahead and replace screen.

Was wondering if anyone knows where to get the glue that Dell uses to affix this display to the bezel. Know it is not absolutely required because the clamps on the bezel should hold the screen tight but would like to be certain by applying the same kind of glue that was on it before.

    Thanks,

Did google about adhesive, Lots of mis-information out there including super-glue (seriously how will one take bezel out the next time?), double sided tape etc.

I'd like to use something that is very close to what manufacturers use (if there is a way to get it).

Narrow double sided tape will do the job. It is not required though. I used to have M1530 and replaced LCD back cabinet on it due to the crack near the hinge. There are plastic clips on the sides, which hold the bezel to the back cabinet and no tape was required. Dell uses simple double sided tape if the bezel does not align flush for you. Do not use any glue due to the reason you already mentioned.

While taking the bezel off, I don't think I noticed Dell using a double sided tape, it seemed more like a mild adhesive (like sticky note glue, a glue but something that can come off). Yes, I cannot be using anything other than a mild-mild adhesive. Am not sure about the strength of double sided tape though. How difficult would it become to pry open the next time?
