Hello,
I have a Dell XPS laptop M1530.
Currently, the screen turns to white when I turn it on.
I tried blowing hot air through a hairdryer on the Video card, and that restored the screen for about an hour, and then crashed, so it was not a complete solution.
As far as I can tell, the issue is not due to the LCD, or motherboard, but the Video Card.
I initially had issues with the color on the screen going pink/green depending on the angle of the LCD, and the webcam crashing when I turned it on, but the video card kept crashing last Sunday, and then the screen went white after a few crashes.
Any advice or solutions ?
Thanks to anyone who answers, it is much appreciated!![]()
Also, is it possible to remove the harddrive and put it into a Desktop and use it for the main drive ?

It could be the LVDS cable (getting bent, stuck). The GPU on the M1530 is soldered, so you would have to change the board. Personally I'd scrap the M1530, they all have a defective Nvidia chip, even a 350-400 dollar laptop with an i3 and HD 3000 GPU is faster than an M1530.

Commander Wolf can i haz broadwell?
Yup, time to get a new laptop. M1530s will basically never be fixed. You can try to salvage some of the value by parting it out.

Hi Maven ,
My name is Rathish and I am working with Dell Social Media Team. I got to know from your post that
your computer just gives a white screen when you turn the computer on .
The first step I request you to try is to remove the power cable and the battery then hold the power button for 15-20 seconds and put the battery and the adapter back in and try and start the computer.
If that did not help.
I request you to kindly run the Preboot system assessment test .
The easiest way to run the test is to press and hold the FN key (function key) and then press the power button once and keep holding the FN key till you see the test running on the screen.
IF you are able to see the color bars then I can assure you that there is no issue with LCD or else its an issue with LCD screen
Let the test run and if you get any error messages. Please let me know.
Also if you have a monitor, Please try and connect it on the left video connector of the laptop. If you are getting display it not an issue with the video card or motherboard.
Unfortunately the hard drive of a laptop cannot be attached to a desktop computer.
Please try the steps above and let us know the error.
Thanks & Regards

Hi,
I wonder if you're able to fix your laptop. My son's laptop had the similar problem. It's a Dell XPS M1530 with Nvidia 8400M GPU card. Initially I thought it's probably a fan issue, but after investigating the issue further I realized that I am also suffering from Nvidia defect.
The laptop showed only a blank/black screen and just the fan whirring in the background. I worked for couple hours after I cleaned the fan and then died again. I did a diagnostic task by holding D keyboard as press power on button and saw flashing red/green/blue screens, so I think the display is fine.
I wished that I knew about this problem before the warranty expired. I feel very bad since Dell sold me a product that was known to be defective and won't help to fix it without a warranty.
Thanks. -

That being said, it is not Dell's fault, you really need to blame Nvidia, for whom until this day still has not admitted fault, they just paid a tiny smidge of 400 million dollar settlement, they probably own tens of billions for the Nvidia chips that spanned 3 generations of laptops. -
Hello
Maybe you can help me as well ... I picked up a 2nd XPS M1530 via ebay and my 1st unit did need to have the motherboard replaced a year or so ago, but it never ran HOT ... but this 2nd one runs real hot ! I've learned there is no way to control the fan via software but perhaps you can advise as to how to lower the temp of the unit. Any help would be much appreciated.
