Can my dell xps m1530 use the Core 2 Extreme Processor QX9300 2.53GHz, 1067MHZ, 12M L2 Cache Dual Core Processor?? Right now im using the X7900.
-
-
im not 100% sure but i think that the max that the xps line supports is the X9000
at leat that's what the xps m1730 supports since it is a 'old' motherboard -
okay well i have one of these processors so thats why i asked. i want to use it but i guess ill list it on ebay
-
which one do u have?
-
i have the QX9300. i wanted to use it in my dell xps m1530 but i guess ill try and sell it. there going on ebay for $600. ill fire sale mine for $500 i guess. last time i fire saled a processor my X9000 sold in 10 mins for $325

Nope, best possible is the x9000.
-
dame it. how come? why wont it work?
-
thats because the xps line uses the 'santa-rosa' motherboard instead on the new 'montevina' motherboard which supports quad processors
-
okay so ill sell my qx9300 and get the x9100 for now.
-
wow i didnt know u could put a x7900 in a m1530
-
the X9100 won't work. The X9000 is the top of the line for the M1530. Like the QX9300, the X9100 is Montevina and won't work.
-
is it a different pin size or what? i know its a socket p. my motherboard probaly just wont see it right? but yes the x7900 works fine and ill just get a x9000 for now and sell this qx9300. looks like the 16g of ddr3 memory i have wont work either. i have ddr2 in my 1530
-
yea it won't work. montevina is not santa rosa and vice versa. different compatibility.
-
so different pin size or? i know its socket p

Santa rosa's max is 800Mhz
The cpus you're trying to run are 1066.
Personally, If I had those high spec'd cpus and all that ram to hand, I'd ditch the 1530 and try and find a cheap laptop that can support them, then swap them over. -
yomamasfavourite summed it up nicely. The Santa Rosa platform with the PM965 chipset (as used in the M1530) can only use 667MHz or 800MHz FSB processors. The Core 2 Extreme X9000 is the highest compatible processor option, followed by the Core 2 Duo T9500, T9300, T8500, T8300, and so on. The X9100, and all mobile quad-cores, even Socket P, have 1066MHz FSB.
-
so will my dell just down clocked the fsb to 800 or will it not even work at all?

I just think it will fail to boot.
There's no support in the bios for any processors not supported by Santa Rosa chipset.
There was a thread on here somewhere about running newer processors.
According to it, Intel had added support but it'd only work if the laptop manufacturers also added support.
I'll have a look and see if I can find it.

man i just wish i could use this quad core processor in my laptop. maybe i should just put it in and see what happens. i should just sell my xps 1530 and get something that supports ddr3 and quad core processor.
-
y i just tried it and it dont work. i get the dell post code leds and there the ones that say there isnt a processor installed. now im mad because im gonna have to sell my 1530 and get something that will support it.
