alright so my xps is running abit hot under stressful conditions (70c plus), i read a few reviews from this site and from other sources on the net that the zalman nc1000 is a very popular notebook cooler so i got myself one from my local pc store. whilst the build quality and cooling capability is top notch i realised that this particular model does not suit the xps notebook very well. the cooler only has air holes on the bottom 2/3 portion of the surface whilst the xps cpu intake vents is on the top left portion. in the end there is alot of cool air being blown into the ram/hdd etc but very few is actually heading towards the cpu. my idle temp seems to have come down quite abit but my peak temps have only gone down by about 2-3c and sometimes it still hits well over 70.
does anyone else have any experience with the xps and this cooler?

I've the NC2000 and with a Dell where the vents are high up and it works fine.
If you really wanted to force all the air through your laptop's vents you could try to block off the space b/n the cooler and laptop on the sides and bottom with something soft like rolled up fabric. This would cause all the air to go straight up. But I don't think that's really needed.

What's the difference between a NC1000 and an NC2000 for a M1530?

I have the NC2000 and am very happy with it. See my video (link in sig) for a quick review on it. The video will also show you the best position for the laptop to get optimum cooling.
Also, as Jack53 has mentioned above, its being discussed in some depth in the link he's provided.
