    Dell XPS M1530 driver packs

    Hi,

    I am trying to find drivers for a friend's Dell XPS M1530 running Windows XP-SP3, which isn't supported by Dell. I downloaded them from Notebook Driver but am getting occasional freezes while Windows is loading.

    Searching several driver download sites they seem to fall into two groups, with identical drivers in each group:
    1) Notebook Driver, DriversWiki
    2) odrivers, FileFobia, Notebook Drivers Download
    Some critical drivers in group 1 are newer: Chipset (8.3.1.1009/8.2.0.1014), SATA AHCI (7.8.0.1012/7.5.0.1017). But other drivers in group 2 are newer: Video (7.15.11.5663/6.14.11.7431). Most of the drivers in group 1 come as ZIP or RAR files containing the drivers themselves, whereas those in group 2 are all executables.

    I also found a long thread on this site XPS M1530 Windows XP Driver Pack (Final) by Udi. It had version 8.2.0.1001 of AHCI, but all the links to the pack seem to be dead.

    According to this Intel thread the latest version of the AHCI driver for the 82801HBM controller is 9.6.0.1014.

    I would welcome any help/advice you can give about driver packs please:

    • Can you explain why the two groups of download sites have different versions of drivers? Do they deliberately have older versions of some drivers because it has been found that newer versions of one driver (e.g. Chipset) clash with newer versions of a different driver (e.g. Video), or is it just aren't they maintained very well?
    • Is it safe just to pick the latest version of each driver that I can find anywhere and not worry about them clashing?
    • Do you have any experience of the download sites given above?
    • Is Udi's pack still available anywhere?

    I realise that Windows XP is 3 generations old but would appreciate any help you can give.
