I just ordered a Dell XPS M1530 Midnight blue for AUD $1967.90 (i managed to save $130 without coupons).
It has: T7500, 8600GT, 2Gb memory, 250gb hard drive, 1440x900 screen, 3
years dell platinum warranty with accidental cover and all the other
usuals.
Just wondering if it is worth it to upgrade the memory to 3gb (to run on 32bit vista)?
Anyone know how much of a performance difference there is between 2gb ddr2 and 3gb ddr2?
And where i can get the memory from in Australia for less than $75 shipped?
I have seen kingston 2gb but that cost about $130 (don't know if this one is compatible http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memory/ocz_pc2_5400_ddr2_sodimm)
Any help will do

As someone said in this forum bro 3gb would be good but your system will using only 2gb normally and uses the remaining only when it runs out of 2gb memory space .. so 2gb would be just enough for 32bit Vista

2 GB is sufficient for Vista 32-bit. Unless you run memory-intensive programs (games, photoshop, etc), you won't notice a difference.

A lot of games are pushing 2Gb to the limit and some beyond, use a program or even a vista gadget that monitors your memory usage, if you find yourself near max fairly often, more ram would be a wise buy.

I would think ahead and play safe and get the 3MB memory. To run XP comfortably I needed 2mb and Vista is a lot more demanding. If you play any games or photo editing, you will notice some difference running 3MB. Even if you don't need it now, you will eventually.
On the other hand, if all you do is some internet and spreadsheets and that's it, you don't need 3MB. -

Is it compatible to use any DDR2 667mhz 200pin sitck of memory?

Its usually best to stick to the same brand, but you can. Don't tell dell tech support though as they won't support you.

what brand is the memory that dell use?

Upgrading memory does not invalidate support, if you happend to get a bad/incompatiable stick from elsewhere, naturaly they wont replace it for you, but you will still get support for the notebook. I find its usually most cost effective just to get the lowest amount of memory to start with, and never plan on using it. Sell it, give it away, but get your own matched kit. Dell doesnt use a select brand for any of its components really, they use what they can get the best deals on at the time, why you see like notebooks all the time with different displays, drives, etc.
