Dell XPS M1530 powerful enough?

I'm thinking of buying an xps m1530...but I need to be able to play games as demanding as Assassin's Creed or even Crysis...I was wondering if any of you know how high in graphics you can get to (without overclocking) in these games, before getting lag...If the answer is medium, then its ok, but if its low...well...I think im either going to reconsider my laptop choice or im going to upgrade the nvidia card which comes with the xps...

Now you see I need you guys!

If you get the 8600M-GT, you can play Crysis on Medium(some options on high), and Assassin's Creed on High.

 

Keep in mind though, if you -need- it for gaming, you're best off going for a Desktop as gaming laptops tend to be very heavy and not so portable. The Dell XPS M1530 is a good mid-range gaming and mid-range portable computer, so it won't play Crysis on extremely high.

 

It will be enough for today's games on medium, but it will bit its teeth of pretty fast, so if you like to play always the newest and best looking stuff either get a a desktop or a much more powerful notebook, which has an 8800.

 

so lets say i upgrade my nvidia card to a 8800 or i buy another notebook with it, on how high can i play crysis and AC?

 

To play Crysis in medium you'll have to play at a lower resolution such as 1440x900 or possibly even 1280x800. Counter Strike Source, HL2, Farcry, and other games from that era you can easily play all maxed out.

For hardcore gaming consider building a budget desktop system with an 8800GT 512MB. And then buying a XPS M1330/1530 for portability.

The XPS M1530 is not a hardcore gaming laptop. It is a thin and light 15.4" laptop with excellent specs and a midrange graphics chip. It is about on par (or better depending on what options you check) with a MacBook Pro in terms of performance.

Hardcore gaming laptops include the Alienware M15x, and Dell XPS M1730. These laptops feature highend graphics chip such as 8800M GTXs. Personally I think they are a ripoff, as a $1000 custom built desktop would be just as good for gaming.

 

The M1530 can only upgrade to a 8600GT.

If your gaming needs are very high, you may have to consider going the Alienware route. But be ready to drop some serious cash. Either that, or pray that the next XPS 15" refresh offers 8800 caliber GPU, which I somehow doubt.

You can NOT upgrade the GPU on the 1530. It requires a FULL motherboard replacement.

 

Nope, you'd want to go with a Sager laptop then. XPS graphics cards are soldered onto the motherboard.

Not as sleek, but you might want to look at the XPS M1730, or a Sager laptop in my opinion.

All depends on what graphics card you put into it. What GFX card would you put in?

No doubt, High settings would be good on the 8800GTX.

Same, probably maxed out. I'm just going by speculation though, as I don't own a laptop with a 8800M GTX.

Edit: My desktop with an 8800GT plays Assassins Creed without any lag.

 

If you have the money, go with the Alienware or wait for a 15 incher from Sager or Clevo. If you don't, go with the Dell.

 

if your gonna spend over 2k on a laptop just for a game, then you should really evaluate your priorities.
i have the xps m1530 and it is an excellent laptop. thats all i have to say.

 

For the price you can't beat the m1530 in terms of performance. You will be able to play most previous gen games at high settings. Crysis is playable at mid settings. If I were you I might wait for the refresh on the xps line. Nvidia just unvealed the new 9series mobile cards so a refresh might not be too far away.
