    Hi all,

I've been trying to find a spare caddy for my new XPS 1530 but haven't had much luck anywhere. Dell parts refuses to sell just the caddy. Anyone know any place where I can purchase it?

I like to keep 2 seperate hard drives. 1 running Fedora the other windows. Done that with most of my old laptops including my last Inspiron 1520. Never had any problems ordering until now.

I like dual booting on a single hard drive...

I asked about this a little while ago, for the same reason. I want to be able to swap hard drives on the fly without having to unscrew the drive from the caddy. Another guy responded that he got one by calling Dell and telling them that his cracked, and they sent him another one.

I've not tried that, but if you do happen to find another way to get one please post back. I'd really like one too.

Dual booting is OK, but you then need to share space as opposed to having drives dedicated to their own purpose. Plus if you decide to blow one away and change to something else, a dual-boot situation complicates that. Having two dedicated drives is really ideal if you're someone who likes to try new things regularly without mucking up something else.

Thanks for the info. Fountainhead. I'll see if I can find any other way of getting it. Otherwise I'll try to order it the way you suggested.
It seems this only applies to the XPS line. I've had no problems in the past ordering for the Inspirons or Latitudes.

With the cost of hard drives going down, and the space going up, this really isn't an issue anymore.

Uhm.......ok. How exactly does it complicate things?

You'll only "muck" a dual boot situation up once before you learn what to do
NOT to screw it up.....which means you'll actually learn more from a dual boot situation. ;)

LOL. I'll match my knowledge with you or anyone here. I was booting Digital Research DOS 2 from a 5 1/4 inch floppy when you were still in short pants, or so I'm guessing. :p

But the bottom line is if a guy wants to swap hard drives, he wants to swap hard drives. If he wanted to dual boot he'd not have bothered to ask the question. To each his own.
