Im about to purchase the Dell XPS M1530 laptop. These are the specs:

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T7250 (2.00 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 2 MB L2-cache)
    2048MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [2x1024]
    160GB (5400RPM) SATA Hard Drive
    15.4¿ UltraSharp™ WXGA (1280x800) CCFL Display (220nits) with TrueLife™
    Primary 6-cell Lithium-Ion Battery (56 WHr)
Genuine Windows Vista® Home Premium - English

    Total: £745.46
    With 10% voucher - £670

    Just have 3 questions -

Is the processor (2.0 ghz) in the specs any good?

What do you think (roughly), the total price will be if i negotiated with Dell over the phone?

There is quite some bad comments in the user review column on this website, does this laptop have any serious issues?

    Thanks

If you can try and squeeze up to a T7500 2.2Ghz because it has 4mb cache. But it doesn't really matter because the T7250 probably will be fine.

What GPU have you selected the 8600mGT (This is recommended).

The processor is fine, the next model up (T7500 2.2) does not justify the jump in price.

Mileage will vary over the phone. Give it a try is all I can suggest, they will try their best to beat the web price as they will get the commision on the sale.

It seems there are some definite build quality issues on Dells products. It seems if you get a good one you're fine, but if you get a bad one you may be going round in circles waiting for them to fix it.

You're protected by the UK distance selling regs though, so if you don't like it when you receive it, return it for a full refund.

I just got off the phone with Dell, they gave me a total price of £675 with the same specs as above but with a better resolution 1440x900 instead of the 1200x800.

Havent gone for it yet. My friend will try and get a quote under his business as they have ordered alot of products from Dell over the years. If that doesnt work, then ill go for the £675.

I was on the phone for about 20 mins, first he gave me a price of £780 but managed to get him down by £100.

Are there any serious issues with the M1530 as some people have said there is problems with overheating and hard drive noises?
