    Hello,

I have been looking for a laptop for quite awhile now, and I really love the new Dell XPS M1530. But there are 2 things I am not sure about...

The screen it comes with is only has a 1200 x 800 resolution. Which is not that impressive for a 15.4" notebook. I know they are going to release better resolutions like WXGA+ and WSXGA+, but I haven't been able to find a solid date on when they are going to release it. Has anyone found anything official on it? And if I bought it now, could I upgrade the screen later?

Also, with Penryn releasing on January 6th, what do you think that will do to the Santa Rosa prices XPS M1530? Will they just addon the Penryn chips at really high prices, or lower the Santa Rosa chips and addon the Penryns at a premium price? I doubt I could afford the Penryn either way, I was just wondering if maybe that would cause the Santa Rosa's to come down.

Another question about Penryn, I know the bus speeds are going to be kicked up to 1066 (toned down to 800 in the Santa Rosa refresh though), but will the memory speed be upgraded at all? And with the bus speed cranked down to Santa Rosa level is there really going to be any speed gain anyway? The only advantage I see is that the high-end Penryns will have 6 MB of cache.

By the way, the Penryns will be released on the M1530 right away... http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=197070

    Thanks,

    Brandon

just a side note, perhaps, i know they say penryn will be released on the 6th of jan, but quite honestly, does that really mean that it will be appearing in notebooks in jan and shipping...i asked the guys at portable one, when their penryn stuff is coming and they said probably q2 of 08, but thats all i know.
    thanks

I say wait for better screen resolutions. Penryn will likely not be available for some time, that one will be a long wait. Hot promotions now will become even hotter for the low screen resolutions as better screens are introduced.

When you say you got $500 off, do you mean the $300 off $1499 config plus $200 gift card?

No, it was even better than that. It was $300 of $1499 config, plus $200 coupon, plus $200 gift card.

Despite the insane deal, that I missed by about 5 minutes as well, I would say you should wait until there are better screen options, you'll probably be happier....well thats at least how i'm justifying not kicking myself for missing the deal.
