    Hey,

I have a Dell XPS M1710 laptop, and up until maybe two weeks ago my in-built speakers had been working perfectly fine. When I tried using them again this week, I noticed the speakers stay absolutely quiet and don't make any sounds. However, if I plug in a headset on the onboard soundcard jack the sounds work fine. I have had this laptop with me on multiple trips but afaik this happened during one, so is it possible that something has disconnected inside the laptop itself or is it maybe a common bug with these laptops?

    Any ideas would be appreciated.

It may be an internal disconnection, but I've come across motherboards with the same problem on which re-seating the connection and replace the speakers did not fix the problem. Subsequently it is possible that there's a fault with your motherboard and that you'll need to replace it to get sound.

Won't hurt to try re-seating the speakers, though.

My laptop is a sponsor product from Intel and it's pretty old so I don't have warranty left meaning my only shot is doing what you recommended I guess, so I'll give that a try in a day or two when I have a minute and report back if it helped or not.
