I'm trying to get my laptop upgraded as much as possible and I've already ordered 320GB Seagate Momentus 7200.3 SATAII GFO harddrive to replace the 100GB Hitachi harddrive.

Now, I need to know which CPU's and RAM work with this Dell mobo (i945PM chipset with Socket 479 mPGA). The Intel factsheet shows that it supports Core2Duo processors but only 667MHz FSB - Does that mean the best CPU that would work is T7600 (2,33GHz)? If so, I'm assuming it makes no sense to get faster than 667MHz DDR2?

    Cheers

This is Socket M we're talking about: the fastest processor you can use the T7600, and yes, there is no point in getting anything faster than 667MHz memory. 800MHz memory will simply downclock.

Alright - is there like a compatibility list for RAM for the XPS M1710 somewhere on the internet or should ~any DDR2 be just fine? Wasn't able to find with a quick look.

Any sort of DDR2 should be fine. 667MHz is obviously preferable, but you'll be able to use 533MHz without too big a performance hit as well. I think the max memory is probably 4GB?

You might look into the T7600G if you can find one. The M1710 BIOS will support OCing the 7600G since its an extreme.

If you have the 7900GS, look for a 7950GTX.

Go with the 667Mhz DDR2 sticks...

I read that the default Dell BIOS has some kind of a limit for RAM? Anyone who can confirm that or knows the details?
