    I just bought this computer.

    -XPS M1710, Intel Core 2 Duo Processor T7600 (2.33GHz/667MHz/4MB)
-17 inch UltraSharp TrueLife Wide-screen WUXGA with Black LCD Cover, for XPS M1710
-2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM 677MHZ,2 DIMM
-512MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7950 GTX
    -100GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive

    3,500 including tax

    I make a decent choice?

nice computer man. although the price is a bit steep. i think you couldve have built your own desktop for gaming and bought a portable notebook for school for 3500. Either way that computer is really sweet and i hope you like it. o_O. post some pictures :D

It's way too much for a system which is being outdated IMO.

    I would've gone w/ alienware w/ 7950GTX SLI.

Return it if you can, get something else.

It is however very good laptop w/ single GPU.

FAFSA(collegemoney) So its all good financially. I've noticed the M1730, a newer version of the M1710. Just hoping I didn't make a bad move not getting the 1730?

ps, Its in build stage at dell still...will post pics when I get it(hopefullysoon!)

    I spec'd up a 1710 when i ordered my 1730.

The 1730 offered better value, but the 1710 does look alot thinner and smarter. Im sure it has a much longer battery life too. The 1730 really isnt portable unless your near a power outlet.

The m1710 is definitely thinner and looks pretty sleek as RobHague mentioned. I had one for a brief period of time - it was actually really good. Wouldn't mind having that now too.
