So I was looking for a gaming notebook and obviously looked at Dell first. the M1730 seemed like a good choice until I looked at the GPU offerings. You can either get Dual 8700m GT's (which is a mediocre performer) or the ridiculous Dual 8800m GTX's which cost another $700-1000 depending on the setup. So basically theres really no graphics card that will perform well for the price. So I stumbled upon Sager, where I built a laptop that was cheaper than the Dell (and I had a Dell employee discount) with a 9800m GT, which is on par with an 8800 GTX (if not better). So I guess the point of all my rambling is my dissapointment with Dell and their card options. Why dont they offer a single 8800m GTX or 9800m GT or GTX? In the end I was dissapointed I didnt get the Dell and I still like their desktop options, but they need to clean up and offer more for their gaming laptops.

As a side note I dont want this to turn into a Dell bashing thread but I just wanted to see what other people think.

Ya I've noticed with most computer companies that they tend to make a huge jump between video cards. They should offer more options in my opinion.

The Alienware m15x has the single 8800 option. The 9800 will probably be in the next iteration of the M1730 whether it is a new model or refresh.

Yes and the Alienware's are also overpriced and littered with problems that we hear from people on forums all the time. This is the first time I am buying a Sager but I hear nothing but good things about them and Clevo. The NP5796 I just bought was $2300 while the equivalent Alienware m15x (with a smaller screen) was $2900. Its really a no brainer. Sure you dont get fancy light show but thats about it. The Sager builds are supposedly always sturdy as hell unlike the Alienware's.

Yeah I know they are overpriced, but it was just an example to show that there is an option somewhere. It's more or less allowing for differentiation between product lines. Forced upgrades if you will.

Dont get me wrong the Alienware's are very pretty but I never really realized how much better deals you can get elsewhere (even Dell's line are more affordable). I also look at some of the laptops from VooDoo and Falcon Northwest and I really dont understand why people purchase those. They are so insanely overpriced and they dont necessarily all have cutting edge components.

there not gonna upgrade it so it has the 9800, that will lose all the purpose of alienware's m17x..... dell is probabley gonna stop the m1730 line and make alienware its sole gaming branch
