    Dell XPS M1730 CPU Support??

    I got a free Intel P9600 and wondering if it will work in the xps m1730? before i take apart the system i would like to know if it will work.

    Nope, it will NOT word. This is because P9600 is a Montevina processor, and M1730 has the Santa Rosa platform. M1730 can support only the following processors with Penryn core: T8100, T8300, T9300, T9500, X9000.

    And the x7800 (is that the right model number?) The older xtreme processor basically, not that you'd want to spend the money on that when you can get something better.

    The X7800 and X7900 CPUs doesn't have Penryn core. They have the Merom core, and therefore they are produced in 65nm and have only 4 (or 2) MB of L2 cache memory.

    both x7800 and x7900 have 4mb cache

    If you're eyeing the xtreme processors, just pay a bit more and get the top end since that's the utmost highest you can go with the m1730. Doooo it!
