Well mag my tests with 270.73 have been made on Xp not on 7.
On 7 i guess that the latest betas 275.27 are the best you can have right now.
But still on xp those quadros have roughly the same performance as yours 197.15 with the execption of being newer, more optimized and with latest sli profiles.
Im getting 50~ fps at 8xqcsaa in dirt 3, with a slower clocked gpus compared to yours, so i guess were there. Also those drivers seems to fully utilize the 112 shaders in the 9800m gtx, as always quadros are still better than regular geforce.

Anyway since i dont have time, if you happen to try quadro 270.73 on 7 let me know how it turns out.

Allright installed those Quadro drivers in Win 7. Average fps for Dirt 3 with those drivers and Win 7 is 47.44 fps at 1920x1200 Ultra 8xCSAA, not too shabby :)

Great stuff, almost 2fps faster than 275.27. Did you noticed the slowdown bug?

    Thanks for the information guys.
I'm going to look into getting one of those coolers.

Theoretically speaking, if the laptop is cool then the fans won't need to spin up so it can stay in "silent" mode?

In theory yes, but it doesnt happen. In idle the fans will kick in as soon as 50c are reached.
Since even web browsing and other stuff clocks the gpu to the first 3d profile, temp will likely rise.
Therefore the new a11 kicks in fans soon, and does a rinse and repeat process to keep it around 50c.
Note if you have an x9000 with 3,4 thru bios hence fans always on, the gpu will idle around 42c.
A good laptop cooler can help, but dont think about miracles.

NVIDIA just released a new set of drivers, a stable release this time, 275.33.
Did anyone tried these? I guess they're the best you can get for Windows 7, right?

Waiting for your feedback bro. Anyway I'll do a clean install of both XP and 7 soon, I kinda messed them up and they scream for a clean install.
I have a question though, for RAID0 how is best to set the stripe size? 64K for the OS and apps/games on a setup with 7200RPM drives should be enough?

The Witcher 2 works fine now after installing W7 64-bit - thanks again for a good advice . One more question if you don't mind ;) . If I would like to install Windows XP sp 3 on another disk - do I have doing something special ? , or just install it on second disc ? And as for the boot - whether there will be opportunity of choice wich system I would like to run , or should I change something in boot.ini file or do something else ?

If you install XP after 7, then you'll have to fix 7's boot manager to have them both up and running. Google for some tutorials.

I don't know for sure, but it is unlikely.
M1730 will definitely work with Intel 5300 wireless card though. Have it myself. Just make that you buy the version that is compatible with Dell systems.

Btw, new patch for Crysis 2 is out that adds advanced video settings to the game. It's not much, but better than what we had before.

    @pmassey31545
Flash Card Modules will not work with RAID arrays. Meaning that it is either one or the other. I've also heard of people having all sorts of reliability issues with those modules. I'd spend those money elsewhere.

Called intel and they said if that will work (which dell said also), then the 6300 will work too. Intel said the card is pretty much the same and that the only difference is some increased bandwith for the 6300.

That's great. Just make sure that the card you are getting is compatible with Dell systems. For example HP OEM hardware (i.e. IDE optical drives, wi-fi modules) in most cases don't tend to work with Dell systems. Would like to hear how it goes.

    Hey guys,

I'm looking to buy a new battery for my M1730(bios says i should replace it after battery test and I get like 40 minutes out of it so I want to replace it too).

Looking on eBay for M1730 specific batteries the best I could find is 7800MAH(I don't know how much the standard battery is, only says 85W 11.1V). It takes longer to charge then it gives me battery life.

I was wondering can I get a higher capacity battery, preferably one that actually doesn't sit flush with the laptop so when I'm using it the battery comes out of the laptop so it pushes the laptop up(helps with airflow and I prefer it like that).

An eBay link would be great or just something I could search for, if anyone knows a good website. Has to be under $100 and preferably 12 cell if there's such thing for the m1730.

    Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Can I expect 2 hours or more under a brand new 7800MAH(or more hopefully) battery?

Kimlo, I ran into the same dilemma as you did... I really wanted to spend less than 100 bucks for a new battery... but i guess i didn't look into it enough. The reason being is because I wanted the same performance at least as my original battery (that said it had about 45 min left and also said it needed to be replaced) and it to fit perfectly and looked the same. So I bought it from Dell stubbornly which I regret somewhat because of the price around 150. I did a little research for you and found the battery pretty cheap and also looking the same. The site I found is...
    Dell XPS M1730 Battery
This is the only site that gives enough photos to recognize that the battery looks the same and is 9 cell. I can't find any sites of any kind that sell a 12 cell battery for our computer. Hope this helps you...

Thanks for the response msuspartan, I've emailed them asking a few things, might end up buying from there depending how much shipping costs.

I was looking at this one for eBay 7800MAH BATTERY FOR DELL XPS M1730 HG307 WG317 312-0680 (eBay item 300483349347 end time 17-Jun-11 19:25:51 AEST) : Computers Networking 7800MAH, works out around $57 so good price too.

IF anyone knows of higher capacity batteries of if there is no such thing please say something.

With the whole Aus post banning batteries by mail is there a chance customs would stop the package? I hope not.

There's 10400 MAH batteries for a lot of HP laptops, wish there would be something like that for the XPS.

I do and yes, they do 'spin up' a lot more. Said they changed a few things to try to keep it cooler. Mine come on at 57-58C on my GPU and shut off right after. Seems like the fans are set to come on at 58, and shut off at 57. Makes a small window and thats why you hear more of the on/off action. Not a big deal for me. Now if you are idling at 57-58, i could see it being an issue bc they would be doing it constantly. But mine idle around 49-50 so for me-no biggie. Haven't really noticed the CPU doing it so much. I'm idling about 42 there.
I use a program called I6kfangui when I want to have better control of the fans. Works pretty good. BUt most of the time, I just let the BIOS handle it.

By the way kimlo the battery I Just got from dell the other day, after it's fully charged and I unplug the computer... with the power plan set to balanced I get about 2 and a half hours.

pmassey, mine must idle around 57-58 then because I hear the fans changing quite frequently. I haven't been using the computer for games lately... just light work. My xps sits on a wood desk so it possibly could generate heat more, but i notice while i move my system to another area while it's on the fans seem to finally slow down quite a bit.

I have a XPS M1730 where the warranty is expiring this week.
When I talked to DELL, they said it was around $320 after tax for 1 year with Inhome service.
Did anyone know if that's the lowest or they are just giving me a wrong quota?

Sounds close to right. I just extended mine till Oct 2012 and it costed $436. Had to py the $50 fee for reinstatement bc the previous owner let it expire, but I figure it is well worth it.

Msuspartan, I emailed that site they don't do overseas deliveries.
2.5 hours is awesome though! That would actually make the laptop usable away from the powerpoint because right now it feels like I get half an hour from it.

I'm most likely going to get the battery from eBay.

Well im gonna reply to maself lol.
Demo runs maxed out (FSAA) but with only one card, as both xp 275.33/Seven hasnt a profile for it yet (at least not for multi gpu, just for singles with AA flags).

So the whole demo, maxed out at 1200p, runs around 35fps stable with FSAA enabled.
Without FSAA and Vsync it goes from 35.4 till 59.4, mostly 40-45 average.

FSAA does impact a bit the framerate and visual quality but nothing biggie really. At 1200p on our screen hardly you need any AA.

So when a sli profile will kick in i bet we can do 60fps constant with either FSAA or FXAA (nvidia own MLAA) enabled, if not more.

And the demo rocks...duke is back :D
