What kind of fps do you guys get in Dirt2?

I ran the benchmark in Dirt at 1920x1200 Ultra settings and 4xMSAA and landed on 38.3 fps average in the benchmark test :)

Dude, M1730 screen won't connect. But RGB Led has already been done. . . Aikimox's post where he has confimed with his own disassembly and reassembly of both machines that the RGB LED screen works with the M17x-R1. Unfortunately, it costs too much and some of us don't see the point.

Until and unless I read that incorrectly, and you're trying to infer that we could install an RGB Led on the M1730. Heh.

I was saying the screen from the r1 or2 will not work with the 1730 but It would be nice if it did so the owners could get the rgb.

    Right on. . .

Well, M1730s own screen is quite dandy. I only wished that the GPU and system design was a bit cooler.

    Magnus,
Your Dirt 2 scores are rather impressive. Is that with SLi?

Kade yes that is with SLI and Vista 64 along with newer drivers. I had to change from my old favourite drivers 180.84 to 197.25 and damn what SLI works great with these in Just Cause 2, Metro 2033 even runs in Very High settings now and Dirt 2 as you could see.

I even managed to squeeze out a whole 38.8 fps average now in Ultra High settings and 4xAA in Dirt 2 with a third run of the benchmark :) I´ll post some videos soon of the game running on my XPS M1730, I can only imagine what nice boost I would get out of an X9000.

I can definitely recommend the 197.25 drivers from laptopvideo2go site.

I liked the gains in 197.25, but the issues were too much. Do me a favour, try the Resident Evil 5 benchmark and tell me if 'Area 4' runs badly for you. It is important that I get good performance on older titles as well, otherwise, switching back and forth will just become a chore.

Also, Metro 2033. Nice! Very demanding game. . . how did you get it to run so nicely? We have M17x owners who are finding the game's requirements a bit challenging. You say you can run it on very high? Is this with maximum resolution? And what are the average frame rates? Because I would really like to pull this off as well. Nice game, but very demanding - I'd rather see a custom configuration.

Try this SLI profile in Nhancer and see if it helps. This is the one I run with. Very High works but I play in High settings and I have around 30-50 fps depending on area.

I tried the Residen Evil 5 Benchmark with HDR set to High (can only be set in ini file) 1920x1200 all options maxed, no AA though.

Well Area 1 had 63.3 fps average

    Area 4 52.6

Area 4 ran better than Area 2 and Area 3. Those both had around 51 fps average.

TBH the only reason for 1920x1200 is HD video, games are fine at 1440x900 and as you said the games will work better with much higher quality settings. ;)

Very High Settings on metro 2033?
Wow, I stick with medium @ 1920x1200 to have a good fps.
I'm gonna see what the 9800m GTX give.
I never used nhancer, what does it tweak?

Dude, just a thought, but you should make a separate topic on How To make the xps1730 run as good as you make it run. Like a step by step tutorial of what you do to make certain games run smooth, details, maybe benchmarks etc.
Honestly, you have the best running scores on the Beast, and even though we have similar systems, your scores always surpase mine. So I must be doing something wrong, and it`s time I learned from the Yoda master :D
High OCing, tweaked nhancer profiles etc.

Ha ha yodamaster, well I get a little green when I have a hangover after a party :)

Yes I think I will have to write up a tutorial somehow, I will definitely do that.

totostar playing in Very High is playable, but to get good framerates I play in High settings, after all the game is damn power hungry. I will probably get an X9000 now very soon and see what kind of benchmarks I get after installing that one.

I installed it too because I thought it can increase number of fps in BFBC2 and... nope. 195.62 works same (or better). It's strange because 197.25 should have SLI profiles - in contrast to much older version.

Finished installing the 9800m gtx, very nice performance boost, still can't reach acceptable fps on very high with metro 2033 with the new 197.16 nvidia drivers.
Tried your nhancer profile but doesn't seem to change anything, still getting average of 14 fps but maybe I'm not using it correctly.

Just wanted to chime in and say that I tried playing Dirt 2 today with the Ultra preset settings and the highest MSAA setting allowed (8xQCMSAA or something like that) at 1920 x1200 and I was pleasantly surprised to be getting 30 frames and smooth gameplay. In the benchmark it said I averaged 33 frames and my lowest was 28.

Also, not sure if anyone has tried running the 189.10 Asus mobile drivers found over at LaptopVideo2Go before, but for some reason Im able to set my Overclocks to 650/1625/1000 and my GPU temperatures seem to only go as high as 80c.

Given that my card for whatever reason seems to be up around that temp under non overclock conditions anyway when being stressed... I dont see this to be a problem.

Also, dunno if this really makes a difference in performance, but I did notice an extra "pop" on my screen when playing. I set my quality settings aside from AA to their maximum respective settings in the NVCP and so far so good.

Still loving this laptop and its capabilities.

    Hi All,

This is my first post on these forums so sorry if this has already been answered. i have just purchased a Dell XPS 1730 with the below spec:

    2.5GHz Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7700
    4GB DDR2 RAM
    2 x SLI nVidia 8700 GT

Would this be able to play Bad Company 2?

Also i am having a few issues with the gaming lcd screen since i upgraded to Windows 7. This is currently not showing the performance monitor and also fraps. The performance monitors path location is going to the LCDClock but there is nothing in there for the performance monitor. Any ideas how to get these back

    Thanks in advance.

Magnus what settings are you playing Metro 2033 at?
I was testing it with 1920x1200 with Dx10, lowering it to 1440x900 gives a good fps but the visual quality suffers a bit (damn our xps lcd displays they don't forgive lower resolutions) or going with dx9 but you lose nice movement effects.
Is the 9800m GTX overclockable? It seems it isn't nhancer doesn't accept new settings and google doesn't seem to talk about it.

    Congrats on you purchase.
Updating logitech screen drivers should solve the problem. Refer to Psyloid's website for the links.

As for running Bad Company 2, you should be able to do that, but be prepared to turn visual settings down. On my system with SLI 8800M GTX I can just about run it almost maxed out.
    SLI 8700M GT< single 8800M GTX

    Yes, 9800M GTX is overclockable.

Thanks for the reply. i have already tried to install the drivers you suggested regarding the LCD screen but it is still not showing the performance monitor even though everything else seems ok. I can try uninstalling all the drivers for the lcd and reinstalling them. Ill let you know how this goes.

Regarding the running of BC2. I tried to run it last night and even with all settings turned down to low it still seems to be stuttering. I haev found some programs to monitor GPU and CPU temps and also to cehck the frame rate which i will try when i get in from work but do you have any other tips or advice on anything that i could try?

    Thanks

Anyone knows what settings are good to OC the 9800m GTX?
I tried the ones I used with my 8800m GTX ( Like Magnus Core 625, Shaders 1550 Mem 950) but the card became unstable with metro 2033 and I hesitate on trying anything else lol

Weird, but you should try Win 7 it's really good

Hmm try 600/1500/900 instead. It could be the memory 950, try setting different values. It´s either the shaders or the Memory, not often the Core itself that hinders overclocking.

I got 0 performance improvement (GPU Z confirmed the new gpu settings)
After 2 minutes the card locked and froze had to alt tab and reset settings.
    Doesn't sound too good lol.

Fraps reports 13fps at the very start of level 1 with everything maxed out except AA

I guess metro 2033 on High1920x1200@ Dx10 with an average of 27 fps is not so bad

totostar no that is pretty good considering the game is not optimized at all. Just look at benchmarks with with ATI 5870 desktop GPU´s they can hardly run the game in DX11 mode at 1920x1200.

I'm staying at normal setting though, 32-47 fps range is just too damn good.
It's a shame we can't change every small detail like shadows or vsync (which are not small btw)
I'd like to test your nhancer profile sometime

I do too yeah but i'm kind of a maniac when it comes to effects and all, and I do like the dx10 effects lol :p
then again those effects only work on very high, The game runs well on Very High dx9 guess i'll settle for that... anyways I have already completed it twice so it's only a reference otherwise every other game run very smoothly.
Bad Company 2 runs on everything maxed out even Vertical sync except AA with 30-50 fps

I know my CPU is pulling me back, but it`s not fluent even at 1440x900, medium details, and numbers under 20, 0 shadows....

I can't carry my 1730 around any more - It's just too heavy for my newly repaired shoulder :(

I thought about selling it ages ago, but now I kind of have no choice - I'd like constructive opinions about how much I should ask for it, it's also got a spare Sharp screen and keyboard to go with it.

I know the 8700 card lets it down a bit, but I guess thats the price I will pay for being an "early adopter".....The spec is as per my sig....

If I didn't have to travel so much I would keep it, but the battery life is so short, and it's so damn heavy :( It has been an awesome desktop replacement though - once I put 8Gb in it I could run 3 or 4 virtual machines and the host OS at the same time, and for windows domain based development it worked a treat.

I'm thinking about replacing it with a Sony Vaio F series, so if anyones got any thoughts about those then im all ears :)

So i called dell again to keep up to date and now i was told that i will most likely be recieving an m17x, so now its all about R1 or R2, im thinking i can get an r2 out of it because its the only one with the 1920x1200 screen and each component is supposed to be matched or better. Also got a tech over there checking up on it every 2 days and calling me with any updates. Its been about 10 buisness days out of the 21 max period they give and i've been told i will be givin my system specs within one week at max. Hopefully i can eek out that r2 =).
