If you get the time would you be able to run Crysis at various settings and show FPS, just with the cpu clocked at 2.8 =]. Good work on all the upgrade videos etc im sure many people would find them extremely usefull =]

ps. Got a full speced M1730 On the way =]

I dont have Crysis right now - but you wouldnt be able to see the difference in FPS via the videos, since Youtube shows videos at 30FPS.

ifti - I was watching all your videos for days while I waited for my M1730 a couple of weeks back and as much as love to tear things apart I am holding back on opening my M1730 but the temptation is there to open it up especially after watching your videos on upgrading the video cards. I have torn apart every other laptop I have had so far and that includes Toshiba X205-9349, X205-sli1, Sony Sz330P, FZ180E, but so far I kept my hands off my M1730.

I know exactly what you mean. Ive opened many systems in the past, being an IT profesional, but I must admit, even I was nervous opening up this beast - probably because it was my own system! lol

Since you opened your M1730, can you check what PLL is there on the mainboard? That would be helpful if we want to be able to overclock FSB with software like ClockGen or Cpufsb at podien-dot-de

No software currently supports OCing via the PLL.. :(

We only need to know what PLL is there. Then, support will come, if not already supported.

As is, Santa rosa plls are not supported by software overclocking, no-one has cracked them but even if they had what realistic benefit do you expect?

    On a ~ 15000+ 3dmark laptop you will see **** all improvement.

Especially since you can easily overclock the x9000 and the 8800m gtx's.
Modding your fsb won't increase system performance as it is unlikely with the stock cooling that you could run the x9000 at anything over 3.4Ghz and be stable.

Likewise the 8800's will only run stable at the max overclock you can currently get with something like rivatuner.

Still, those without an X9000 would definitely see an increase... :)

    In what though?
Regardless of what speed the cpu pumps out, its still your gpu, or gpu's that will be the bottleneck (if you can still call it a bottleneck, given how powerful some of those gpu's are)

I would imagine only those using cpu intensive applications like coding, rendering or massively complex cad simulations would really see a benefit, and granted you would see a decent improvement, especially since you also be able to use higher speed ram.

Chances are though if you bought this system with the intention of using cpu intensive applications you probably initially upgraded the cpu, that or you use a desktop to do the calculations.

I think though, given the cost of replacing a spec'd out one of these, you will have less than a handful that would be nutty enough to do it.
