Hi i am new to thi forum but i thought i would upload some pictures of changing the cpu in my m1730. Im doing this to help anyone unsure on how to change the processor as i couldnt find anything when i was looking to change my T9500 to the x9000 processor.
To be honest this is actually quite simple to do. If you have had some practice messing around with your desktop or another laptop then even better.
First go to youtube and look for the video on how the change the graphics card in the m1730. It will show you how to strip down most of the laptop which is fairly simple.

The next step after stripping it down to as far as you can from the video is to remove the graphics card, disconect all the plugs you can see on the main board (being gentle), take out only the screws holding the motherboard to the bottom casing. There is one screw hiding under the useless physx card which also needs removing before lifting the board, there are 4 screws holding the physx card on.

Once all screws are undone and cables are removed carefully lift the board out and spin it over. There will be 5 screws holding the heat sink down. Carefully undo these screws.

Now gently pull the heatsink from the bridge and the cpu. Once off get a cloth and some nail varnish remover and take the old paste off the copper heat pad.

Now you can chage the cpu. To remove the old cpu turn the black screw above it to unlock and lift it up off the socket. Now very carefully place the new cpu onto the socted matching up the corners to the correct pin locations (Its easy to see). once sat nicely in the cocket turn the screw back to the lock position.

Once the new cpu is in place you will need to apply new thermal paste to the sticking up part on the cpu and the heatsink. When done with the paste you can attach the heatsink and screw it down doing opposite corner crews a bit at a time.

Now its time to retrace your steps and put it all back together agen.
Hope this has helped.

Nice job. I miss my M1730 (well, maybe not the GPU replacement issues). That was a fun system to own! Thanks for sharing your CPU replacement process.
