Which laptop is better? Also I couldn't find the color "Bone White" on the dell site for the m1730...
I need a laptop that can do gaming pretty good too. I'm leaning towards the 1730 atm because of the awesome flashing lights... haha
-
Well clearly the 1730 is for gaming. And it'll do it very good, not just pretty good. I used to own a first gen xps laptop, and boy do I miss the lights. Obnoxious disco laptop ftw. Plus the backlit keyboard is something that'll be very very hard to part with after you've used it once. I had a macbook pro for a month, and while I'm getting rid of it, I find myself having a hard time adjusting to non backlit keyboards now.

I'm looking to sell my macbook pro aluminum and get the dell xps m1730.. Is it worth it? Are all the features good for most games nowadays? Is it outdated? Also why is there no "Bone White" color feature on dells site?
Thanks! -
the xps 1730 is on sale for 999 dollars, look at my sig and buy it now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
9800m gt SLI is still in the top 5 GPU options for gaming and at 999 cannot be beat, they are proably out of bone white -
Are you sure its only until May 20th? Is it specified anywhere?
-
a customer rep
-
there will be a new laptop released on june 1 thats why they are selling them cheap
the xps 1730 will beat the sxps16 to death lol -
m1730 is probably the cheapest deal right now though that link to bad no more x9000 though.
-
-
So what happens after May 20th? What would the prices look like then?
-
The XPS 16 also has a few lights, just less lol
But yeah, if gaming is your top priority, the XPS1730 is a better buck for performance -
Back to the original, where adding the 9800 sli option will be an extra like uhh...400ish on top of 1k. Some will say "omg 1730 is outdated because not montevista" or something of that sort but honestly, can you really tell the difference in speed? Take 800mhz ram and 1066 ram, with everyday normal non benchmarking use, can you tell the difference?
With that said, take up the t9300, and you're good to go. Better cpu than most. If you want a faster clocked dual core, this is one of the last laptops to offer it. Most laptops are switching to the 2.0ghz quads. -
Older doesn't necessarily mean that much worse. Most older Core 2 Duo are still fine by today's standards(at least 2.0GHz & up). Really, if you pick a decent CPU, it won't matter really. Usually if anything the main difference is that newer tech is more efficient(more power for less juice/heat).
-
You still can add a third party x9000 CPU yourself, also Centrino vs Centrino 2 is like only 15-20 percent gain in technology. And for gaming 9800GT SLI is still one of the best GPU's money can buy.

montevina to correct the earlier post
this laptop will still hang with the best easy
after the 20th ..... i think the laptop will no longer be sold due to the merger with AW being fully complete the new line of laptops is going to be dell/AW dells xps's will now be a dellware gaming seris of notebooks
see allpowerful.com -
In essence, the gaming line for dell is going to go away and be primarily sold through aw?
-
I think so.
-
That totally and utterly blows.
So if something happens, AW will replace it with an alien crapware ? -
Well, I know one thing for sure, AW won't be having sales Dell has when they're trying to phase out a particular line.
-
If you haven't purchased the m1730, I guess you'll have to go with the Studio 16. The deal is dead...
-
yup so MANY people bought it they had to end it 3 days early LOL
Dell XPS M1730 or Studio 16?
