    Good afternoon.
I have a question regarding this 17" Dell XPS M1730. I have it here, but GPU blown out some time ago and I was thinking I would make it work again and give it my friend for the Christmas. I need to find out what GPU I can put into it and where to buy it. Any of you could give me a hand please? I'm aiming for some cheaper solution as my friend is not gamer and he will most probably use it only for movies/internet.

Any help will be really appreciated. Thank you!

All of the low-end GPU options for the M1730 (8700 single, 8700 SLI) are afflicted with the Nvidia GPU issue. And they are only low end in relative spec; because they go bad so often, they are ridiculously expensive for what you get. I would part this out and buy something else.

So there is no ATI solution for this model? What is the name of the NVIDIA gpu exactly? I'd give it look around to see how much they cost. Thank you for your help :)

There is no ATI solution. What do you mean by "name"? I don't know the part numbers if that's what you're looking for?

I was looking for general designation of the card so I would check the price of it. Is it something like Nvidia 9800GT SLI or I don't know. This is quite special card isn't it?

No, these are just normal Nvidia GPUs in a proprietary Dell form factor. I think there's single/SLI versions of the 8700M, 8800M, and 9800M, but that should be all of them.
