This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    Dell XPS Studio 1640: After clean install, the webcam software, seems to have stopped working, and facial recognition.....

    SVP. having read on a few threads and reading your posts in those and being a member for about 3 minutes now i am hoping to take you up on the please contact me idea that you floated above.

    i just bought (and yes i now see the mental midget of my actions) an ebay 2nd hand 1645 which had a motherboard replaced. apparently clean install and all is peachy does not mean that the elusive webcam central and facial recognition software is onboard. i was supplied with a burnt driver disk but no sign of an option for these two packages. i have no service tag and therefore cannot go into the download section.
    i paid a good price and just didnt do the research. i had no idea that dell would have software that was never supplied on a disk to original purchasers.
    Any idea how i fix this one???

    You should have a service tag number somewhere directly stuck to the machine. Without that, there isn't much that can be done. Sorry that I can't help more.
