    Morning All,
My Dell XPS 1530 is a couple of months outside of it's warranty and the keyboard and touchpad have gone "funny".

Firstly there is now no response from the touchpad. I clean the keyboard and touchpad with a slightly damp kitchen towel every now and again, maybe I used too much water I don't know but it now doesn't responde, so have been using an external mouse for a few weeks.

Secondly, yesterday the keyboard went funny. When booting up the laptop there was continuous beeps (as if someone was pressing a key). This was very loud and annoying, but once booted up I had more problems. If I highlighted any icons on the desktop with my mouse it would automatically try to delete it. If I highlighted any text it would delete it, if I pressed the left cursor key it would delete, and if I pressed home it would delete any text in front of the cursor.

Then the full stop key, just kept going, and going and going without me touching it. I have a guide to remove the keyboard but is there anything I should be lookking for?

How about the touchpad, how can I access it and check for faults?

Thanks for reading the longest post in the history of this site :)

Well, i may be a noob :D, but before even opening the laptop i would reinstall the driver for the keypad and keyboard. As for the beeping i had that once, i reseated my ram. Problem solved. So before you go opening the laptop try those and if it doesn't work post back :)

Thank you for your advice. I have re downloaded the software and drivers for the trackpad from Dell but to no avail. I will try the keyboard drivers and reseating the RAM too tonight though.

I got my hands on a M1330 with a fried nVidia motherboard and when I replaced it I decided to clean the keyboard with alcohol and ran in the same exact problems you are having with the keyboard. I let it dry out for a couple days and it was fine after that. Never use any type of liquids to clean the keyboard/palm rest.

worst of all, you can just go ahead and replace the keyboard and palm rest, I did a google search, there are seem to be a lot them out there for 20, 30 bucks. Just follow the service manual and replace them yourself.
