I am really interested in the Dell XPS 15 and I wonder when the next version might come out. I do not want to regret buying now and then in October the next one comes out and I go mental :)

I was also hoping for an upgraded gpu and maybe some more customization options.

In past experiences, when can we expect the newest Dell XPS 15 update to arrive? What is the usual cycle? Two a year?

    Thank you very much

    Cheers
    Robert

It's usually once a year when Intel refreshes their platform... Broadwell probably won't be out 'til the end of the year, so I don't think you should expect anything sooner than that...

    same question i asked myself.
They could be smart and put a gtx 850/860M into it since it performs a hell lot better than a GT 750M,
broadwell is not important, just another minor 5% CPU performance increase and some litlle saving features, not worth the wait.

    But a date, nobody knows

Thank you guys for your responses.

Does that even happen? A gpu upgrade is exactly what I am talking about and I wonder if they will bring a customization option out soon!?

    Any other Macbook Killer Laptops?

I know the MSI Ghost 60 pro but they dont look real good. Rather cheap and battery life is mediocre
Then there is the new Razer Blade which is not 15 inch, just has 8 gig RAM and not even a display port.

I would really look for a GOOD LOOKING, Macbook killing Windows machine. And I do not want a macbook cause it underperforms with Windows and doesnt even have a touchscreen.

    Any suggestions?

I do not think Dell will upgrade just the GPU before they refresh the entire platform. It has happened before, but not recently (I'm thinking like M1730).

I would so wish for that too! I got my XPS 15 today and the performance is not bad - ~30fps at Dota 2 maxed out at Native. But the 850m/860m would be so much better.

I had the same dillema as you. The other laptops that you might want to cosider:
    - Lenovo Y50: 860m Maxwell, looks well (not as great), 5.3lbs, up to 4k display, touch optional -> people still didn't get their hands on it; so I would wait for initial reviews; the battery life will definitely be shorter though.
    - Asus N550jk: 850m Maxwell, looks well (not as great), 6lbs, 1080 IPS touch, no reviews yet too
    - Razer Blade 14 2014: 870m Kepler, looks amazing, only 8gb of RAM, pricey
    - GS 60 (pro): 860m/870m, too much gaming look for me

There are others such as Gigabyte P34g/35g or Clevo that have great specs but the looks are just horehounds (for me). Major problem with the ones I listed is also the battery life - you will get 4-5 hours out of the Razer, 2-4 out of GS60 and the other ones probably won't be better. Also - they are all heavier than XPS at 4.4lbs.

Personally, I'm waiting for the reviews on Y50 and still considering the Razer (this will come down to the international warranty).

WOW !!! It looks like we are exactly looking for the same thing! Thank you so much 227

I am also hoping for the June Apple conference thingy. They will eventually update the Macbookn Pro Retina and since the 750M was in the last Macbook Pro I am hoping for a gpu upgrade. And if that happens Dell might want to upgrade their gpu as well.

Can you manually upgrade the Dell XPS GPU to a 860m? Maybe at XOTIC or another crazy custom laptop lab!?

    My thoughts on the laptop:

In terms of build quality and looks for me No.1 is still the Macbook then the Dell XPS and the Razer and then the Y50 ... then maybe some ultrabooks with bad gpu etc and nothing

Y50: I like the look, but it seems to be heavier and battery life will be worse. Will wait for reviews
Razer: Just 8 GB of RAM, just 14 inch, no displayport etc
MSI: Basically perfect specwise, but looks cheap, and battery life is horrible

I would jump all over the Dell if it would have a better GPU. Does anyone know if the Macbook fully supports Windows running on it!?

    Thank you all!

So many people are between the XPS 15 and the Y50, have a look at this breakdown generic list I did earlier today
Also more and more people are demanding newer GPU for their $2500 investment, at least the NVIDIA 850M, I really hope Dell can act fast and deliver, every other major manufacturer has an Nvidia 8 series as an option already somewhere between their laptop lines, Dell is the only one left behind.

    Thank you very much guys!

Yea the soldered version unfortunately makes a lot of sense since it is so thin ! I feared that

and I could not agree more! Let us all write dell support and ask for a updated gpu version! : -)

Because as nice as the y50 is, it is unfortunately heavier and a bit gaming looking with its red lightning stuff. I am a scientist and I love geeky stuff but when I give a talk or lecture, I kind of like to at least look professional : -)

just talked with dell about that supposed upgrade from 4702HQ to 4710HQ and/or possible GPU refresh. The rep said that they haven't received any information about that but it's possible in the future. So my take is that it might come, but it's definitely not imminent.

And on the looks: people in my office have rMBP 15", but this thing (XPS) is just in class of its own. I absolutely love the matte finish around the keyboard and the keyboard itself. It feels so soft on the touch - much better than rMBP.

On the side - I got the coil whine yesterday so even if I keep the machine I will have to call in support to try to replace something.
