    Hi,

I want to buy a XPS 15 9560 notebook which is offered both in the consumer and business section of the Dell website (Europe). The business version is slightly more interesting for me because it allows to add installation media and fingerprint reader add ons. But even with the same configuration the business version of the XPS 15 is around 400$ (after taxes) more expensive than the consumer version. The business version has Windows 10 Pro instead of the Home edition - but this does not accommodate for 400$...

Is there any advantage (besides having the possibility to add the fingerprint reader) of the business models? E.g. better quality control?

    Regards,

The Dell business support tends to be better if you have a problem. However, the business version of the XPS15 9560 is the Precision 5520 which has a slightly different, certified dGPU. This might also have better quality control - there have been far fewer complaints about the Precision 5510 than there have been about the XPS15 9550, but that may also reflect sales numbers as well as the tendency of the XPS purchasers to try to push their notebooks beyond the design limits.

Precision 5520 has a higher binned CPU as well as a validated dGPU and software - it's a more thoroughly tested and better supported version essentially.

I am not talking about the Precision 5520 but about the XPS 15. The 5520 would be interesting with a Pascal GPU which is not available.

You don't seem to understand, Precision 5520 IS the Pascal business version of the XPS 15

No, the 5520 uses a Quadro M1200. The M stands for maxwell... More specifically the GM107 (the same GPU as a 960M).

Didn't that get updated as well? I remember reading about it getting swapped out for Pascal.

You seem to have understood it wrong. The Quadro got updated but is still Maxwell.

No, dell decided for whatever reason not to go with a P series quadro.

I don't think so, I guess a Precision 55x0 with the recently announced P600 or P1000 will come eventually.

I distinctly remember talk of a Pascal-based Quadro being added - why Dell decided on Maxwell again is beyond me.

The question needs to be directed at Nvidia - the Pascal Quadro is currently only available in the P3000 and above. Perhaps there's something about performance or stability that they know but we don't.

Anyway, getting back to the original question: Is an XPS15 being sold in the business section any better than in the home section? I suspect not as they will all look the same to the people in the factory.
