I wanted to buy a Dell XPS m1330 but I was wondering if there were any major problems that I should know about? I heard about design flaws but I am confused if that is still taking place or if it was just for the earlier units produced. I would appreciate the help

There are still some issues with the general craftsmanship and construction of the laptop. For example, the keyboard bulge or the laptop bezel protruding a bit.

However the biggest design flaw is the inadequate single cooler for the CPU and GPU, which causes high temperatures for the latter, which could cause it to fail.

I bought the xps1330 in April of this year (08). Dont have any issues at all. Works and runs great. Earlier release models may have issues, but I think Dell has resolved everything.

Have 2 other buddies who just bought the 1330 and they couldn't be happier.

    Go for it...

I'd recommend getting the M1330 with Intel graphics to avoid the problem some people are having with the Nvidia cards. You can find many victims of the problem who have posted in this thread --> Vertical lines thread
Even people who are not gamers and who never overclocked their cards have had the problem -- and had to have their motherboards replaced. The newer BIOS may make the Nvidia cards last longer, but they're still made of defective materials and won't last as long as they should.

The Intel X3100 graphics does not have this problem, and will get you better battery life. If you need an Nvidia card for gaming, I suggest looking at other laptops that have a 9000 series Nvidia card or an ATI card.
