and whether there will be a possibility of the 'grainy' screen? I guess they're only using the 1200x800 for now.

dell uses at least 3 brands: LG-Philips, Sharp-Aquos and Samsung-SEC

There are more chances of getting a grainy Aquos (50% chance) than a grainy SEC (33% chance) and less chance to get a grainy LG (25% chance)

I've got Dell's Inspiron 1520 with a SEC screen and it is perfect

I was hoping they used another dedicated brand, but oh well. I just returned an Inspiron 1520 because the display was simply disappointing. I would characterize it as having a thin film of seawater laying on top of it. The horizontal viewing angles were atrocious as well (SEC3157).

I also thought since the description was "glossy" it my have been different, but it looks like Dell simply got rid of the true-life description and is calling it glossy on all its machines. Interesting note - even though my 1520 was true-life - it just looked like a matte screen to me.

Not really sure which I have on mine but Im very happy with it. Very bright and vivid with a little bit of unnoticeable light leakage. How can I find out which one I have?

Anyone else shocked that they are only offering one screen right now? What happened to high res?

I'm sure they'll release the higher res screens later. The product/tech guide stated that there'll be 4 screen options. CCFL: WXGA, WXGA+, WSXGA and LED: WXGA+

    Just need to be patient.

You may have gotten a matte screen by mistake - you can definitely tell the difference between the two very obviously.

I have had SEC and LG on my different 1710's and they were both great screens with the LG edging out the SEC a little due to better colors.

Sharp screens are good as well, but the worst are CMO - big mistake by Dell going with cheimei :(

I'll let you know what screen came with the 1530 next week....

Got my m1530 yesterday and..... grainy screen. Sending a new screen for a tech to come out next week. Thought with the extra expense of XPS, there would be no issues...
