I just reinstalled my OS system and now two things don't work: First, the sound bar doesn't appear when I try lower/raise the volume on my laptop (which have led to many obnoxious moments in class, when I didn't realize how high I had set my volume) and, Secondly, the touchpad scrolling no longer works. Does anyone know what I need to download to get these two working again?

    Your help is much appreciated!

What OS is that? Vista or XP?

For both, try reinstalling the drivers - Both Audio and Touchpad drivers. There are some recent drivers available from Dell (check link in sig for more).

The scrolling audio bar is not generated by any driver. You have to install Dell's Quickset utility to get it. The volume level should still be displayed by the volume icon in the system tray of Vista. I would skip Quickset if you can do without.

The touchpad scrolling is definitely controlled by the touchpad driver. The touchpad itself will work without the driver but the scrolling part of the touchpad will not work until you install the driver for it. The icon for the touchpad will then also appear in the system tray and you'll have additional functionality like turning the touchpad on/off that you won't have if you don't install the driver.
