I found the Ethernet drivers last night
Now i am only missing one driver, Something called the sm bus controller
If you know where the driver for this piece of hardware is please point me in the right direction.
Heres a list of some essential drivers
Wireless (intel wireless-n only)
link
Ethernet
link
Video Driver

Audio
link
most other drivers can be found at the hardware manufacturer's website
before installing XP x64 you need to disable the flash cache module and switch the hard drive mode from AHCI to ATA
also the built in speakers don't work but headphones do. I think this is because i don't have the Sm bus driver
this is my first post so if you tell me how ill post a screenshot![]()
NOTE: i am not responsible for any damage caused to your laptop
EDIT: dont use my audio driver use NuSuey's which can be found further down this page
-
Just googled it and the sm bus controller is the intel chipset driver
-
Found the sm bus driver
Booted up and it works
heres the link
Intel Mobile Chipset driver
link -
Funny, I manually installed the wifi drivers and then everything auto-installed through Windows Update except the biometric software. I also found manually updating ethernet drivers cured a conflict with my gigabit expresscard.
-
I'm worried about switching to XP only because there can be some conflicts boot problems among other things that I don't want to deal with. Dell should really offer the Windows XP option.

-
My speakers work after installing your audio driver.

glad to help. did anybody found out, how to make the AHCI work for xp64?
so i can use AHCI in bios and it wont make a blue screen in xp. -
Its called the intel storage matrix driver
But you cant use the flash ram with XP anyway so why bother -
Thanks. -
Edtek> what do you need from me to upload? i uploaded the sound + webcam drivers allready. or do you mean the whole pack ?
-
I want to downgrade from Vista x64 to Windows XP Pro x64. There are just a few things about Windows Vista x64 that I don't like when it comes to compiling programs.
Windows XP x64 worked perfectly in the past, so I would like to go back to that.
Thanks for any help. -
Ill look for the dell wireless n drivers but i cant make promises
EDIT: lol i googled it and found the wireless-n drivers
link
hope it helps -
While I was waiting for your reply I thought I would try and find all the drivers myself, and I came across this page:
Link
I also found the Dell Wireless N drivers on the Dell site.
Thanks for your help, and I am now just creating my unattended install CD. -
I just spent close to 36 hours messing with drivers and all it does is crash.
So I would like to start from scratch with drivers that someone else confirms working on their system.
Thank you so much. -
ok i thought you found what you need allready.
i'll find my usb key and i'll try .. -
I got it all up and working thanks to (yes I know it is hard to believe) Dell technical support.
A very nice guy there went WAY outside his nine dots to get me all the _correct_ drivers for the system. He even got Dell Quickset to install without a hitch.
Here is the issue however. The system just feels slower than with Windows Vista installed.
Do you think it would help to install the AHCI driver? I know I can't use the flash module, but would that driver possibly help speed things up?
To have a slower system than I had before seems like a waste of the last 2.5 days -
Where are the links which he gave you? or i didnt understand?
you should maybe wait for me, im back from work and i'm gonna try upload some of the drivers -
He gave me all the drivers and I have them in a pack that I can upload to any service if you want to check them out.
It is 227mb compressed with 7zip.
I was able to slipstream all the drivers into an unattended install cd for Windows XP x64, and after the initial Windows setup, I only had to install the actual software for the finger print reader and the touchpad. Everything else was ready to go. -
put it for example @ rapidshare or mediafire
i'll try to upload my drivers too, but the upload speed drivers me nuts (at home).. and after some time it aborts the upload.. but anyway.. -
edtek when can u upload that pack? =) and you say slower then vista?! =O i cant believe it.. lol, how's gaming compare to vista x64?
-
I am uploading the pack to megashare right now, and when it is done, I will post the link to the file.
Also I don't use the laptop for gaming. In fact I am not much of a gamer at all. The only game I play, and rarely at that anymore is Counter-Strike. After 10 years playing it I got tired of the people that cheat and what not, and Steam does little to nothing to stop it. So I decided to pretty much stop playing all together. -
lmao same reason why i stopped CS... =) i played since 1.5-->1.6 when they fixed the awp xD was fun though
hm so u dont game.. im sad to hear so... im debating to switch to xp x64 or not.. cause new game i dled n tested r lagging like hell in vista x64.. u think xp x64 will do any betteR? and yes im using latest laptop2go driver (177.92 vista x64 ) -
I also find the 177.92 drivers slow, so I rolled back to the 177.83, and they perform much better.
I had to restart the file upload as megashare had a problem with the file, so it is being uploaded to File Factory in 100MB chunks.
Should be ready shortly. -
Here are the links:

Those are all the drivers that the Dell support guy gave me, and they work well. -
so slow on dling =( so i guess u dont have all the dell dl links lolz
and the site sucks (cause it is down...and speed is slow).. lol do u have like yahoo or aim u can just send to me? =P
well what i really just need is the driver for Dell Wireless 1395 WLAN Mini-Card / Sound Card / usb or storage crap and that's about it the video driver i can grab off laptop2go.. i see any use for any other driver -
I'm on live chat with Dell right now and the rep is telling me that Dell doesn't support 64 bit so they can't link me to any drivers.
Now the rep is trying to convince me that the 32 bit drivers will work on both 64 & 32 bit! Funny stuff!! -
oh, they have there some serious PRO'S
oh, and i think im gonna try to upload the pack of drivers which i got.. just give me a hour or so.. -
-
ok. i wanted to upload to rapidshare, but i must do it to mediafire, got rapidshare blocked from work.. too bad..
-
can someone just link me to the driver for "Base System Device (there's 3 same name), SM Bus Controller?
that's the only thing i got a ? in device manager (well and the biometric..which i dont use nor bluetooth..)
other then that i got everything up n running =) -
Im trying to post the links to drivers on another thread but it says i need 15 posta so ignore my next three posts
-
Post 1
i needed 10 characters -
Post 2
i lied i only need 2 more posts -
