My M1730 is 13 months old (1 month out of warranty from dell), a few days ago I got the BSOD telling of a parity error. Rebooting solved the problem, today i got the error again. Now it hangs on the dell boot screen, and i cannot even enter the BIOS setup. I've swapped around my two ram sticks in all configs to no avail. Tomorrow i'll call dell and see what they say, but i trust the users more than the techs. Anyone have any ideas. Hopefully I won't have any problems with AMEX's double your warranty service. Thanks in advance

i had that in my m1330 but i found out it was the gpu overheating the ram so idk if that would apply to u. but ive never seen a bsod of my m1730 yet (fingers crossed) if u have another laptop with same ram try swapping see if that fixes it.

I get a bad feeling your GPU's died.
I hope AMEX will cover it, otherwise you need to find a new GPU yourself.

It might also work to send an email to Michael Dell and point out the multiple nVidia GPU failure issues that have plagued this line of systems. It's possible that Dell will fix it.

Basically parity problems are related to memory. You could have a bad GPU as they have memory onboard or a bad memory stick. To rule out memory, try one stick at a time in both slots. If it is memory and not GPU, it will either be a stick of memory or one of the slots.

So it started up today and then died again and now won't boot at all (dead screen , power LED on, no HD, no fans). As to your ram suggestion, I tried it with a single 2GB stick (testing both slots) and then then tested the other 2gb stick. This did nothing. Could both sticks be bad? Does anyone have a contact at dell customer service because i'm going to try and get this fixed before i call AMEX. This laptop is 13 months old. Why would i ever buy another dell??? Anyone think this is not a mobo or video card issue?

PS my m140 is 4 yrs old, and my 300m was 5 yrs old when i sold it...guess they don't make em like they used to.

After using the dell diagnostics (Fn + Power button) I'm getting 3 + 3 + 1 beep, which corresponds to NVRam Insufficient Power dell. After doing a google search i'm still not sure what this means. Anyone?

Best to call tech support. They helped identify that it was a graphics fault with mine.

Spoke to tech support today, they said there was a recall on the nvidia 8600 i believe, but not my 9800, so since the laptop is 1 month out of warranty they will not repair it. Does everyone else reading this thread have the nvidia 9800m card? The tech actually told me that 13 months might be the lifespan of the laptop depending on use, which is funny since i've never used this laptop for gaming!! Anyone had any luck with customer service. I'm going to call tomorrow and either get this fixed or rip into someone (preferably someone high up)

What? My laptops 3 years old. If 13 months is the lifespan why do they have 5 year warranties???! Engineer came to replace my mobo today and he said they should be good for a few years, the main issue is the gpu overheating. Anyway, what about the 12 month extended warranty on the gpu?

It looks like in your case your only chance is AMEX.
Dell will try to fix this, but not for free.
