    Sorry for double posting!

    Intel Core 2 extreme X9000
    4GB 667mhz ddr2 RAM
500GB storage (2x250GB sata HDDs) upgradable.
DVD/Blu Ray combo drive. Reads and writes both DVD and BluRay discs.
    Nvidia GeForce 8800 GTX SLI

Im looking at trading in my sig laptop for this and 1000NZ my way because i want a new car. I was wondering if i would loose any significant performance for those of you who have owned similar specs. I will probably overclock cpu to around 3.3ghz and both cards to around 600+ core. How would the setup run bc2? Also do u guys think its worth it?

    Hey :D
Im an m1730 user as well, mine is fully loaded thought.
Compared to a 5850, you'll lose the dx11 feature, althought those arent so greatly pronunced since the 5850 still a middle class card.
You will loose ground on the cpu side. The i7 is still a quad with HT, so those virtual cores really matters in cpu intensive games such BF2.

Anyway, when sli kicks in and work, theres nothing that stops the "beast" from beat the hell out of some blasoned recent gaming laptops.

First of all, althought its a dual core, the x9000 can go up to 3,4ghz in bios, and with throttle stop, it can reach 3,8ghz stable without any hassle keeping a low voltage.

The 8800m basically is a 9800m GT. The cards can run up to 650/1600/1000 without even bumping the voltage and the score is above 15k in win7 using 3dmark06, while it breaks easily 16k in windows xp.

If you look for some real benchmark, i can tell you how does some games run.

BFBC2 runs from 35 to 81 fps using latest 265.90 quadro drivers modded with these settings:

    1200p
    4xAA
    16xAF
    HBAO on
    Vsync off
Everything else on highest setting possible
    DX10

If you run the game in DX9 then performance will be higher.

Vietnam expansion, since it uses a better refined engine, keeps framrate above 50 almost all the time with settings above.

    Lost Planet 2 benchmark:

    1200p
    All Maxed out settings
    No Vsync No AA
    Test A: 52.3 fps - Rank: B

    Tom Clancy Hawx 2
    All Maxed out settings
    No Vsync
    8xCsaa
    DX10

    Low fps: 74-81
    Max fps: 180-210

I can keep on posting benchmarks, but still, i think that a sli setup like this in conjuction with an x9000 running @ 3,8 is just a monster.
Also, keep in mind that 8800 is still an high-end class card. 96 shaders, 256bit memory bus. Then, take all the details and double them when sli works.
The result is a 512bit memory bus interface plus 192 shaders. In less words, a desktop GTX260 (first edition) was featuring 194 shaders and a 448bit memory bandwidth. Do the maths :)
