    I also ordered w/Lojack, but haven't heard anything. That's a bummer. I ordered on 2/26 though.

As for what I'm going to do with my old computer (m1530 in my sig). I'm going to sell it off in parts on e-bay. I did a calculation and found that most of the parts were selling pretty well, and for generally more than the whole laptop would sell. I'll check again once I get the XPS 15, as it would help offset the cost of the XPS 15 and the XPS 8300 I'm also getting to replace my aging Dimension 8400 (it has served me very well, but its time has come).

Does anyone why the volume and back light buttons aren't working, the F4 for lower brightness and F5 higher, and f11 for lower volume and F12 higher, I click on these buttons but nothing happens, the volume does not turn up, i have to do it from the volume option on the lower right corner icon on the screen, same with the back light. Any ideas?

Press 'Fn' key alongwith your desired key...it'll work...or you can reverse the keys from BIOS or Dell control panel...

For those of you that received your XPS, did anyone order from AAFES?
If so, when was your order placed?

    Thanks

Here's a link for all those people who ordered without the CD. You can download windows 7 (legitimately) from the links here, make sure it's the correct version (home, professional, ultimate, 32 or 64 bits), and then use the license key printed on the sticker on your computer, and it'll work. I did this with a bunch of different windows 7 laptops people brought me to fix, and it works perfectly with all laptops, not just with Dell. Just download the correct version, burn to DVD or USB(my preference) and then install it, enter the key on your computer, and you have a clean windows 7 install.

I'd also suggest downloading the drivers, at least the network card ones, from dell into a USB stick, since the network card might not be detected right away with a win7 install.

Thanks for those vids Mac. So if those wanting to switch the new keyboard for the old one, if even possible, wont have a Caps Lock Indicator, not a big deal but just thought i would point that out. And the Fn keys would be different which would pose a bigger problem. I guess, like it or not, we're just gonna have to get used to the new chicklet keyboard.

But the videos shed a better light on the chicklet than the previous reviewers pics, it looks decent enough. I was at first completely against the new keyboards, but now i might just give them a shot.

And a question to those that have gotten their systems, what does the F3 button do, i cant make out what it is from the videos.

Blingers, i cant answer for sure but the software isn't made by Dell, its provided by a company that makes this specific software only, i believe. I would think they would have thought of it a did something to prevent it.

Weird... I ordered March 3 and it shipped yesterday (March 11) even though the original date for delivery was March 30. This is also a Canadian order, which takes longer for delivery due to having to go through customs, etc.

Can someone who has received the XPS 15 R2 do some measuring? I'd like to know what the length of the cord is starting from the power brick going towards the notebook. In one of the videos it looked pretty short. Can you also measure the length of the cord starting from the power brick going towards the power plug?

The Mains plug length is not very useful info as they can vary and can be switched with a longer or shorter one later on.

I got an A/C Adapter from USA for my SXPS 16 and the mains was maybe as long as my arm. Since i am in the UK i requested Dell UK if they could send me a mains cable and that one is atleast 4 1/2 - 5 feet long.

But i too would like to know how long the 'brick to laptop' cable is. And whoever measures it, please also mention if it is the 130w or 90w adapter.

F3 Fn key is for the touchpad.

130w power brick, from brick to tip of adapter is around 70", or just under 6 feet long. Small cable from brick to A/C outlet is around 2 feet long.

    Thanks for the quick measuring!

After converting to metric :D and doing some measuring of my own the length 'brick to notebook' is going to be OK. It's 2'' shorter then my current cable and I have enough left over even if I take into account that the power plug on the XPS 15 is on the left side and not on the right as with my current notebook.

Did you just order that? If so I highly recommend cancelling the order and getting the B+RGLED 1080p display. So far you're the only one in this thread not to get that upgrade, and you'll be sorry if you ever realize how good the 1080p display is. It's the most important upgrade on the entire system. Downgrade the graphics card or whatever it takes to afford it, because the screen will affect you more than anything else in the laptop.

The B+RG 1080p on the XPS 15 is the best quality display on any consumer-class laptop. The 720p display is the same quality display you'll find on a cheap $379 laptop from Staples.

It truly is shameful how Dell would even include the sub-par garbage of a class 720p in the XPS series.

I am about to re-install windows 7 on my l502x. I have found skype on the dell website. I have not been able to find cyberdrive powerdvd 9.6

The only dvd with the laptop was for Drivers and Utilies.

Do I need to contact Dell and ask them to send it out to me?

I have been using my girlfriends macbook pro for a while before I got this. Is anyone else having any trouble getting the multitouch to work properly on the L502x? I doesn't seem to respond to me very well when I am trying to do the two finger scrolling on webpages like I do on the mac.

Hey guys I'm really wanting to get an XPS L502X but I need to know if the Nvidia Verde drivers really install on these laptops since they use Optimus? I haven't heard any definite answers so far. Has anyone installed the latest Nvidia Verde drivers on the L502X? Thanks in advance for this critical information. :)

I've had the same experience. You have to space your fingers or index/middle finger. Not ideal compared to a macbooks responsivness.

I came a cropper with this one. I got my machine in Jan and reinstalled the OS and just now tried to play my first Blu Ray and discovered that I had no s/w to play it. On talking to Dell tech support, he said in a few more words 'tough sh*t', and then told me to download 'Windows Media Player and the correct plugin for Blu Ray' and that I should have run Dell before I reinstalled the OS to ask what I would lose.

I see from my delivery note that I had PowerDVD 9.6, but no media :(

Synaptics driver are a total disaster anyway, it manipulates scrollbars instead of giving windows mouse scroll signals to the OS.

Thats why i am planning not to uninstall and reinstall anything.

Yep, will keep the way how it is delivered by dell.

Personally i like dell stage and other softwares that dell provide.

I dont think few small program that dell ships will affect performance of an i7 with 8gb ram.

Thinking of ordering and I have a few questions:

    1. Are there any more $100 coupons?
    2. Is the webcam facial recognition software?
    3. What's the difference between the Wireless-N 1030 and Advanced-N 6230?

    Thanks :)
