looks great... if I had to pick something to leave off it would be the RAM upgrade. It seems like you can purchase better quality RAM for cheaper elsewhere.

What's the link/coupon code for the $100 off ? That would be nice.

Oh, and here's a code for free shipping if you don't already have it...
    Dell Coupon Code: HLSKSR06S9ZG0F
    Expires on Apr 7, 2011.

Lol it's kinda too late to add free shipping, I already ordered mine, but it already gave me free shipping 7-10 days, that's fine with me, anyways here is the $100 coupon that everyone wants 6B5L8RX93SG1FT, but you have to do it through EPP.

Maybe these questions have been addressed earlier in the thread, but there are 147 pages behind, so I thought it would be alright to ask...

    1. I am planning ordering an L502X from the Dell USA website, have it delivered to a friend of mine in the US, and he'll bring it along to Turkey, in which case no tax is due, and the total cost will be 1360 $. L502X with The same configuration will be sold in Turkey for 1860 $ (including taxes). That's the main reason I want to purchase it from USA.

I'm planing to obtain a backlit L502X Turkish keyboard in Turkey and replace the backlit English keyboard on my USA-bought laptop. woul there be a compatibility problem in this replacement, meaning is such a replacement possible?

    2. Does the TV-tuner only receive tv broadcasting form air? Or is there some sort of socket for connecting cable tv?

Thanks in advance for your replies...

I'm pretty sure the TV tuner fitted is one of these: AVerMedia AVerTV Global - TV Tuners, Media Player, IPTV and Multimedia Products - Hybrid ATSC series

ATSC and NTSC - US TV standards, rather than European ones. Avermedia do make a DVB/PAL version for Europe that you could swap in - and at least you'd have the antenna lead and socket if you got one from the US.

Not sure about the keyboard - would be very surprised if there'd be any issue swapping them - especially if they make a Turkish keyboard - as the motherboard and connectors will be standard but don't want to say it'll definitely be fine.

I ordered mine on 28/03/2011 and the rep said delivery would be 3 weeks (I'm in the UK), but when I got my confirmation it read: Estimated Delivery Date: 12/05/2011. That's about 7 weeks. Anyone else had such long lead times and are they realistic?

    Thanks,
    Karl

I ordered the XPS 15 a few days ago but I completely misread the CPU options. I thought the i7 2620m was a quad core so I didn't bother to upgrade to the next one (it 2720qm). It's already in production so it's too late to change. Is there a huge difference in performance between the 2620m vs the 2720qm? I'd hate to know I picked a much inferior CPU.

YOu can reorder and dell will either cancel this one or if too late to cancel they will redirect fedex to return it. This way you get what you want versus settling and regretting it. I would get the one you want in your cart, then call dell, explain it and also ask for any other discounts, they gave me an additional $50 off.

We may have a good idea by this weekend. Falcon64 who has a 2720QM and I with my 2620M are going to do some head-to-head tests of our otherwise identical systems.

    Thanks for the reply...

In case the Turkish distributor of Dell misinformed me concerning soon-to-be-released-locally L502X having a backlit Turkish keyboard... Do you think there would be a compatibility problem in swapping a non-backlit Turkish keyboard with the backlit English keyboard on the laptop?

    So many combinations!

I had my non-BL keyboard swapped for a BL one - and plenty of people have done the same. It's same data connector but an additional one for the backlight. So as long as it's a keyboard for the right laptop it seems like it'll work.

I dont like the way these laptops are clipped together - getting the top off to get to the keyboard (and hard drive) seems stressful.

ATSC, NTSC...hmm I've got to get more information about the standard here...

The cable tv connector in my home looks like this:

    http://www.tvcables.co.uk/images/items/15m-tv-aerial-cable.jpg

But I guess I won't be able to receive any broadcasting because of the different "standards" whatever that means?

Hi all, I've been reading this forum for a few days now and you clearly know your stuff so I decided to join and ask a question :)

I'm just wondering if the following setup seems good value. I'm Irish so the price is in euros.

    i7-2720QM
    15.6 FHD B+RGLED TL (1920x1080) 1080p
    6144MB 1333MHz Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM [1x4096 + 1x2048]
500GB (7,200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive
    9-cell 90Whr Lithium Ion battery
    2GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 540M Graphics Card
    Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6230 (2x2 b/g/n+ Bluetooth Combo Card)

    Cost: €1294

The bluray drive and backlit keyboard aren't options in Ireland for some reason. Also, from reading the forum it seems i'd be better off going with 4gig RAM and then upgrading later?

    Thanks for any help :)

Forgive my ignorance: the tv tuner that is offered as an option on the Dell site will not function in Turkey as Turkish standard is Pal, right? So I will have to seek out a Pal version of the same card and swap it with this one... Could you please point me to a link to the pal counterpart of this tv tuner that is compatible with L502X?

Also what is the VGA display port option for?

Excuse me for the noob questions...

I'm also confused about the TV tuner... I'm wondering if it would work in Costa Rica..

My question is: does this tv tuner gets the signal by air (with an internal antenna) or a coax cable must be connected to it?

If it has a coax cable connection, it should work in many countries, right?

Please help up us clearing up this doubts :)

There are 2 different standards for TV-Tuners depending on the location:

    1. EU and most of Europe, Russia, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and some parts of Africa use DVB-T, that means only this will work for digital
    2. US, Canada and Mexico use the ATSC

Both Tuners which are used by Dell are hybrid ones, meaning that there is a digital part and an old fashioned analog input. The analog input is either PAL (for EU) or NTSC (for US)

So in Turkey where PAL is standard digital broadcasting cannot be viewed with this card, but the analog cable tv can be viewed; is that correct?

Thanks for your help. The deals changed overnight but I did find a 10% off coupon that works in Ireland. Strangely the new deal on the website gives a 'free' upgrade to 640gb harddrive but the better wireless option (the bluetooth one) which was previously a €25 upgrade is now unavailable. Oh dell

OK, due to ignorance or dumbness I still didn't get it... but then maybe I did:

This card is neither suitable for analog nor digital broadcasting in Turkey... is that correct?

Could this card be replaced with an EU compatible card? And do you know where can I get it from?

If you get the TV tuner option they add a lead to a socket on the back, looking at the service guide and what people seem to be getting. On mine the hole for the socket is covered with a blanker. So if you get one without the tuner and then want to add one you need to get the antennae socket kit and fit it, as well as adding the tuner itself.

It looks like Costa Rica has gone for the Japanese ISDB-T standard for digital TV and NTSC for analogue. Avermedia do an ISDB-T mini card that doesnt do analogue, or there's the US-supplied one that does NTSC analogue and ATSC digital.

This link shows the available Avermedia cards

AVerMedia AVerTV Global - TV Tuners, Media Player, IPTV and Multimedia Products - Mini PCI & Mini Card

I've only managed to find any of them on ebay, or ebay type sites. Dell in the UK are now fitting European ones on request, by the sounds of it, so maybe they'll sell one individually too, either to replace an NTSC one for use in Turkey or to try to add one from scratch.

It shouldn't take that long. I posted yesterday that the xps 15 motherboards were out of stock, they are supposed to be restocked by April 4th.

Yeah, I had the same. The UK website said to allow a 20 day lead time with the new processors, but I ordered on the 23rd March, and the confirmation e-mail states the EDD will be the 5th May.

I was not a happy bunny.
